Then why all that BR50 stuff? Voting can be done even when everyone is same BR.
And as global commanders often spend more time organizing and looking to the map than fighting, they wouldnt keep that BR50 for long

Of course, it is far, far complex than that. But after that, it is mostly the community who decides who the best leaders are by vote.
The community? Making a good choice? oh god your killing me

The masses can never make a good choice.

It is my personal belief that the best leaders shine the brightest. This is one of the few things that I trust the masses with.

Given the nature of the game, it would absolutely take logistics into account.

It would definitely be a grave oversight to leave out the logistics involved. However, it is also true that managing a battlefield is an even bigger challenge.

Most of the Masses won't know who these "Leaders" are. Without knowing anything about most of them they will make their choice solely on the fact that they MIGHT have heard about one of them in some context.

The people that actually know these guys a little would be members of the same outfit and some other outfits here and there.

People will vote for bad reasons and the wrong people will be chossen, and since a lot of people probably wont pay enough attention they will vote for the same bad leader again for the same bad reason.

I wouldn't be against the idea of additional ranks, so long as they were ceremonial only, and conferred no gameplay benefit. Would be something fun for the truly hardcore.

Or maybe just a special title and helmet for the people in the top spots.. Guy with the most kills, guy with the most healing, guy with the most tank kills, guy with the most air vs air kills, etc.

this sounds so much like blizzards pre-bc ranking system for PVP, therefore, its inevitably gay.

How many of the good leader-types from the original game were also at the top of the kill boards? Was there a correlation? Is there typically a correlation between playing constantly and getting the best score and being good at interpersonal relationships and leading people? I'm just really not sure why the criteria for the positions involving leading people would be tied to a characteristic entirely separate from leading people.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have outfit leader/officers be involved in some kind of a system which lets them appoint the empire's leadership from amongst people who are in leadership positions within outfits or something? Not, like, one supreme leader, but to have a fair number of people so that there are always a handful on, and to allow them to set empire goals/broadcast globally/etc.

Also, I'd remove all cosmetic rewards from it. The people who should lead an empire are the people who want to be involved with leading an empire, not the people who want cool cosmetic features. It would also serve no practical purpose.

'Best and Brightest'...Im going to agree here, but only with two caveats difficult to over come;

1. Over the course of time...
2. When absent politics...

Overall, I think I agree with the premise, leaders (commanders are already taken care of) should have some tools to make them more efficient. Not more powerful, or any perks that smack of royal prestige... Would I mind it? No, I would like the flavor of a "Faction Boss", or "Marshall", but I feel like Im in the minority, so I defer to the crowd on this. Leading can be thankless, and frustrating... having some tools to make them efficient isnt a big game breaker, but could really help the faction...

Edit: A good shot is not necessarily a good leader, need a better mechanism.

This sounds way too much like WoW's original PvP rank system to me.
