I don't think hover will be such a boon for VS MAXes. They need to cross it quickly otherwise they are just TR MAXes when on water.

TR MAXes biggest bane was infantry popping in and out of doorways throwing decis. With VS MAXes hovering over water not only will they not have cover and be further away, but they will also have to deal with every form of cover the infantry chooses to use.

They also mentioned there will be guaranteed two types of AV for each faction, one lock on and the other dumbfire. If every infantry you come across has a lock on AV that kills you in a clip or two you can bet you will think twice before hovering across a river. If used with proper tactics to surprise it could be useful but will be a death sentence head on.

I don't think it would ever be a death sentence head on. However I do agree that it would require proper tactics and forethought. You also raise good points about the water.

I don't think this would fly well. Leery about the whole weight thing, it's a nice idea but it over complicates what really should be a simple design.

Things I'd change are 1 ES and 1 common pool design for each weapon type and empire. No "light, medium, heavy" options, just one MAX suit. And have a modable special as well as a couple of common ability that ALL MAX suits can use (the common abilities aren't changeable).

Common abilities would be autorun, and shields. ES abilities should affect either maneuverability, firepower, or supportive defense. One of each for each empire would be great.

Ya. It doesn't have to be a weight thing.

The only issue is, people would eventually prefer one ability over the other.

This is how MAX'es where designed in PS1:

NC: More DPS, Shields.
TR: Medium DPS, Planks and later on shields(because planks where not so good vs Deci's).
VS: Lowest DPS, no shields but Hover ability.

So the VS got agility, or the "light" MAX im talking about.

It might make the flavor bad, and that might be a problem. But that was the idea.

TR maxes dont get shields - they get overdrive. Amazing how many people think that the red bubble is a shield still.

Made a thought on the diffrent maxes having the ability to switch out systems.

They all keep their origional 3, the lockdown for TR, shield for NC, and Jets for VS. Here are some ideas.

Overdrive Bacicly thinking of a MAX turned into a charging bull only with guns blazing. Thre TR MAX set up for an overdrive charge which only takes a second, then auto-runs into that direction with both Guns Fireing at Lockdown speed. Lasts till guns are empty. The capaciator will work just like the current TR capaciator works right now. You cant use it untill it fills back up.

Cloaking fieldOkay but it is not a cloak like the infiltration suit. It is more like the AMS cloaking bubble, but it is only as large as the shield so the MAX can only cloak itself and it is easier to spot at close distance than an infiltraitor. Drawback is that it cannot fire while cloaked, nor can it autorun.

Phase shiftOkay remember that crazy startrek device where a ship can phase and pass trhough solid material like an austoride. Well here the VS MAX will have the ability to phase through walls only for a short time. Drawback, if it takes any damage and I meen any damage it will demateralize and basicly count as a 1 hit killed MAX.

I always played VS but I think in PS1 the original MAX abilities were all fair and awesome.

However, I agree with people above who said you can change the TR ability from a lockdown to an overdrive. Though the lockdown was amazingly cool and effective I can see people having a problem with it because compared to the other 2 MAX abilities it was the only one that included a drawback with its advantage.

I like the idea of using this template that mimicks the old design of PS1.
TR: ability that temporarily boosts firepower (like an overdrive)
NC: ability that temporarily increases survivability (like a shield)
VS ability that temporarily increases mobility (boost forward, quick sideways boost, just nothing verticle)

I was originally let down when I heard the returning max abilities. I really wanted something new, and the old ones don't fit with the new Empire feels. TR are supposed to be the fastest empire, not the most mobile or unique movement abilities, just speed. Now once again our MAX ability removes all movement. The NC shield fits their theme (and I'm hoping isn't a direct copy and paste of mechanics). I just hope VS get something truly unique.

I guess I should throw in some concepts

TR
Overdrive: Basic version just increases rate of fire. Other options could include faster projectiles, increased movement speed, maybe stamina regen.

Lockdown: Your leg anchors deploy to prevent movement and and your accuracy is greatly increased. Your clip size is doubled and your ammo regenerates (would have to use a cooldown/limit)

NC
Rage: For a limited time all your projectiles are doubled

Overshield: Classic energy shield from PS1, toggle it off and on. Can't fire or recharge the shield while it's on.

VS:
Plasma Penetration: For a limited time, or activated and for a duration, your projectiles will pierce shields and deal some damage to health. It could do just strait increased dmg against MAXs and vechs

Evasion: You quickly dodge incoming projectiles. It would be a simple juke enough to dodge a tank shell or rocket, or to gain cover. While standing still you could jump higher then the normal soldier, but not high as Light Assault.
