I still like the idea of being able to customise your max with at least 1 melee weapon, perhaps even an assault/riot shield too. Mainly cause it's just fucken cool, but Balancing could definitely be tricky. How do you make trading a gun for a melee weapon worth while, without making it OP. If PS2 MAX units are as slow as in Planetside melee attacks would have to be pretty powerful, as closing for melee will only work with autorun and enemies will be able to take them down by simply stepping back outta melee range. Can you now imagine 10 or 20 melee MAX units hotdropping into an enemy held position and taking out like fucking everything? oh god... this is only making me want it more!

I can see a need for some kind of melee attack ability in the MAX. Something as simple as a push back with low damage would be effective.. and realistic.
Ever see a guy get hit by a robot? I have in a car plant. He got thrown into the wall when the robot he was training did something he wasn't expecting. It was rather startling for sure. I think the OP has a good point. The whole Console Style body slam thing is definitely not what we want of course but a quick uppercut or torso twist attack might be worth having. |

Definitely looking forward to MAX Melee. Was never much a PS1 Max user but I'm definitely going to give it a shot this time around. I know pretty much everyone hated this movie but I loved the badass, oversized knives and bayonets the mech suits had in Avatar.

i just came up with a quick design for an event that doesn't include wild animals, it involves elves... not just any elves... Santa's elves... and reindeer. And said elves and reindeer attacking bases and such on christmas.

I don't want a "fully-reliable" melee attacks for MAXes, thou some "humiliation kill" technique would be cool. Not game-breaking, jsut there for coolness factor. Should be hard to implement, like "only from behind the target" or something like this, and have some awesome animation. I imagine a MAX grabbing some guy's neck, lifting him in the air with one arm, then *crack!* the neck goes pop. Would be awesome.

I dunno...I think a melee-only MAX with no ranged attacks whatsoever could be a lot of fun. I'm trying to think of an example from another game and can't at the moment. The only problem is then you have a whole different set of animations and reactions and moves you'd have to put in, so I don't see it happening anytime soon, but it WOULD be fun to mix things up with. You'd likely lose any outdoor battles, but dominate anyone who wasn't prepared to take out armor indoors.
