Biggest example of community being demonic buttholes was Dungeoneering, good lord was that a massive waste of hype, time and kindness to insensitive "I play only for myself in a teamgame" egocenteric food hogging players. |

sure things maybe civil here due to majority of the crew here are well established, seasoned individuals. but give it 3 months on the official website, and i bet you that some of the APB, COD, RS, mouth breathing meat bags will that the people here tried to escape from will congregate to one spot (the official forums) and stink up the place in no time. Probably one of the most rage inducing games I've ever played, such a loss of amazing potential. And yeah, the community is just...constant flame war.
That being the case I'll gladly stick to PSU thank you very much. |

shut up n00ewb, im rite and you're wrong!
(just wanted to give you a feeling of familiarity ) Also, yes, when the community grows the number of vocal "bad apples" will no doubt exceed current levels. So will those that make constructive posts or funny posts, etc. Unfortunately, "bad apples" tend to distract people, make more lasting impressions, etc. For example, I used to play LoL a lot more, and the VAST majority of people I played with were awesome, but I don't remember most of their names, while I can still remember a lot of the jerkasses. Then I found TERA, where before the game was even released, the most egoistic and self-absorbed (not to mention INSANE) people I could have ever had the displeasure of communicating with had to chip in or taking each any every sentence, separating it out, then responding to each with a full on paragraph or two (or three.) One in particular insisted most thread starters to use search if the topic even so much as had peep in another thread... MONTHS ago. Necroing wasn't looked too well upon either. A very welcoming community indeed... So far, I have found only ONE person on this forum that goes through the whole point-by-point response process ad nauseum, and this game is so close we can taste it. That says something. Factor in that even the RP community of TERA seems to have for the most part splintered itself into it's own little cliques (guilds,) and really, the community amounts to $#!% over all. There's no difference between P2P and F2P communities anymore. Ours is an FPS community however. The only time commitment based rewards we have in PS2 are certifications. Coincidentally, I realized why MMO providers don't usually provide RP servers anymore: if players are just going to RP within their own guilds, there's no need to publicly enforce RP rulesets! |

OMG, OP is a lame-o noob and his mother is fat.
Parts of this community, including myself, are nearly a decade old now. I started posting on these forums back in 2003 with the launch of the first PlanetSide. Suffice to say, the community wasn't always as mature as it is now (myself as guilty as the rest) and at times it still can be pretty stupid. Just to give you an idea, I used to have such a hatred for another poster on these forums that we both nearly got banned from a convention we attended with the website staff and PS1 devs (PSUMA in Orlando Florida). During the convention we were kept physically separate to keep us from going at eachother's throats. A year or two later, we finally sorted out our differences. A lot of the original trolls on this forum are gone; banned or just disappeared. Perhaps those that left grew up, or just found somewhere else to be unwanted. I'd like to think the former... 9 years is a long time and a lot of us started out gamer teenagers and now own homes and have kids of our own. I see a lot of new faces on the forums, and for the most part, people are pretty civil. Of course there are some heated debates, but the Mods have been doing a decent job keeping things under control, and the community itself does seem pretty solid. That said, sometimes I feel like arguing with people on PSU is like banging your head against a brick wall; it's painful, accomplishes nothing, and in the end you feel a little dumber for the effort. I think it's mostly due to the age bracket that this game attracted and who still play. After so long you just realize it's easier to click back to the forum list then reply to people who are so obviously wrong or just jerks and just let the thread die. Not always, but it tends to keep the better threads near the top.

Worst community: Diablo 2
Scammers, trolls, racists, and griefers - it's a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Planetside has a more thoughtful community than most, maybe because of it's age (for the same reason, you can meet some really cool people in Diablo 2, but it seems a lesser percentage). Best community: Dwarf Fortress |

People hate change, thus anything that they don't agree with is instantly "noob" or "causal" or "CoD influenced". It's really negative for the community to have that kind of a mentality. We don't want to come off as a bunch of elitists assholes to potential new players.
