I was in beta - I HATED night battles.
It was an interesting experience once or twice but it quickly became a horrible drag. EDIT: Additionally anyone who left their color settings on normal would get completely owned by people who went into video card settings and did made it look weird. You never want game design that favors adjusting your color to bizarre extremes.

Ever had someone shine a mag-light in your face after your eyes have adjusted to the dark? All you see is a huge ball of light. I feel like the Forgelight engine and tactical use of flashlights could make this interesting. At a distance, a flashlight could paint a target on you, but at close range at night it could be a tactical advantage.

I too wish to see darker nights, right now it has no effect on how I play, I actually want it to make me want to buy flashlights.
But I think flashlight should be real cheapo or it should be available for all guns. Like 10-30 certs range. Last edited by Vashyo; 2012-12-29 at 02:18 PM. |

Well I for one want it back. They also should add a dynamic lighting system that changes as you step into and out of blinds and such (if you know what I mean >_<). But by all means, keep up this discussion, because if we get enou hits, who knows, maybe SOE will notice and bring it back!!!!!

i have to say i would love to see it darker at night. maybe have the moon up once every 5 night's or something. it was darker in beta and looked awesome. atm it is far too light, still looks awesome but needs to be darker again.
seen some talk about the light affecting your vision. the glow of the base lights would effect the vision a little and looked great. i miss the darker nights and would love to use night to my advantage. atm i just stay in shadow and kill in the dark lol

People who say infra red and night vision is 'currently' useless, obviously have not watched pwnage DAYTIME footage where the extreme contrast infrared provides is used to negate camo and size spotting issues. It shows all the ants on the ground and provides a much easier target, as the surrounding colours aren't important any more.
Seen it used lots by pilots and tanks especially to snipe or painting targets. It would be nice if a night time advantage wouldn't carry over into the day... Last edited by Figment; 2012-12-29 at 09:54 PM. |

It ends up just being one more way for hardcore players to farm casuals.

Here is the reason pitch black never goes into game. It sucks ass to play. Look at any DayZ server at ( set to ) night time to see how much people like it. Its the same reason "nights" are lit in movies. Only games and movies that do it, are ones about pitch blackness. This has a lot to do with it. No one wants to play in severe darkness, those that do, are just jacking up the gamma, or using third party tricks. I happen to know first hand, most "Hardcore" mindset players are the FIRST to use workarounds for whatever is "Hardcore" about a title. Last edited by MrBloodworth; 2012-12-29 at 11:59 PM. |

A "light" dark night is just not nearly as annoying than a pitch dark night for most players and except for flash light, night vision tools are still valuable to use. If you want night play to be more "tactical", I would rather have SOE design additional night camos and tools. |
