The Crown.
This might be the best feature about this game. It's a mountaintop fortress with near perfect line of fire on every approach route. I love defending it. You can hold it with only infantry against a superior force even while all your other territories are falling. Often you have the 2 hostile factions attacking, each from their side. I do agree that because of the position of their warp gate (and perhaps the terrain) TR has a significant advantage in terms of holding territories. |

With that HUGEASS Canyon right next to our Warpgate, we often have Vanu knocking at our door. I THINK the Continent was suppose to be setup so that the Canyon gives the South Western Gate an advantage by detouring the North's forces around it, while the North Gate has the advantage on the South Eastern Gate by only needing to go up the hill... ...Logic dictates that the South Eastern Gate SHOULD have an advantage on the South Western one... ...Problem is, I think it's SUPPOSE to be the Crown. |

Hmm, I don't think I've even been to the western side of Indar... I'll have to change that later today. I've fought all along the center of the map spreading down the VS warpgate though. Last edited by Nolerhn; 2012-12-22 at 07:01 AM. |

Personally, I think its all about the diversity of the terrain, and the base placement. All the maps have some really unique bases, but on indar they seem to be at the frontiers of the factions. Crown is dead center. Quartz ridge borders Hvar. Skydock is between NC and VS. ect. On Amerish, Lithcorp mining, and split peaks are really cool, but you can only fight on them if the enemy pushes you back, which is contrary to empire goals. |

All the gulleys and washes on Indar provide lots of cover for infantry to move and flank.
The result is you are less likely to be mowed down by high explosives.

Indar just feels like it's the most repetitive and restrictive map of the three. I've visited and actively fought across the rest of the other continents, but with Indar I've yet to ever be a part of an actual fight at Hvar/Sungrey. And if we do manage to take Mao and the crater, the TR just pop in and take it back when the zerg leaves.
The map doesn't feel balanced at all. Either that or its simply the most populated map. But in its current form it feels like it is not reaching its full potential. Its kind of like this: If you're playing VS, you're going to fight at Hvar/Tawrich If you're playing NC, you're going to fight at Tawrich/Mao If you're playing TR, you're going to fight at Hvar/Zurvan Thats really it. The NC are limited to southeast/east/northeast, VS is limited to west, southwest, northwest, and TR are limited to north/east/west. However, of the three factions TR seems to have the most reach it seems. The only reason why I could think this might be is because of the large open landscape which is the northern portion of the map which makes moving vehicles/troops a lot easier. Also, just for the record I haven't played at Hvar/Sungrey since the beta. And I never really got to fight at them after the warpgates were switched. I can't put a finger on it yet, but since it typically is the most populated continent--at least during the hours that I play, which is typically prime time--by a large margin, something is pulling people in.
Someone mentioned the crown. That sounds reasonable as it's the only base in the entire game that is defensible by a smaller force. While I don't like it myself since it's harder for me to farm infantry in my tank or esf there, many others enjoy the CONSTANT action there, which (ironically) is something the game developers are deathly afraid of for some unknown reason (i.e., poor base design, spawn camping and vehicles galore). But for me it's the prospects of being able to find and fight either of the two empires relatively easily. I think that's fundamentally it. I can switch from fighting the NC to the VS without much effort as most of the action concentrates around a few known lines of assault, made possible by the map. Bottlenecks. The other maps really don't have them. |

Also, I believe that Indar is the most popular just because it has the best cont lock bonus. Tank mines arent cheap and that 10% really helps. Last edited by Timealude; 2012-12-22 at 03:11 PM. |

What I dont understand is why are 3/4s of available hotspots on Esmir?
I dont like Esmir - I dont think many people do. But apparently thats where we always end up fighting.

And when I mean superior I mean more populated. |

So far, I have good fights on every continent. TR most of the times seem to control the top halve on Indar because of the terrain. And while that may seem as an advantage for TR, it also seems that this terrain has the VS and NC more pitched against TR than vs each other.

Just have jump pads to get around or make spawn on squad like BF3 for that map. |
