There is a good reason I never just play 1 game at a time. I've got a bit over 100 hours into Planetside 2 since launch and I play every single week. I just have a hard time sitting and playing the same game for days on end. I play a large variety of games. It keeps games like Planetside 2 fresh.
You should do the same. The game isn't going anywhere if you don't play it. |

The game is pretty shallow currently; there isn't a lot of discussion about actual battles because they don't last very long and aren't particularly memorable. I remember one of the busiest forums in PS1 was the server forum; people talking trash mostly, but there was some sense of community there. The people you saw on the forums were people you saw in the game and ForumSide was as much a part of the game as the actual game was. That doesn't happen with PS2. There's a lot more people per server and it just seems like a lot of anonymous people fighting. The official forums don't have server forums and the server forums here are pretty much dead.

I'm not bored of the forum (I never get bored of talking with gamers), but the game itself has definitely become boring for me. It took a few months, but now I am bored with it. Like Babyfark I was hoping for more of a FPS/RTS hybrid. The game really lacks depth in my opinion and that's the main reason I'm bored with it. I have no interest in grinding my way through just to unlock slightly different weapons. I have no interest in the cosmetics because I got what I wanted, but they then changed how they looked and wouldn't give me a refund. I don't really care about the new weapons they keep releasing. There's enough weapons already in the game by far if you ask me. The way the developers just seem to be recycling old Planetside 1 stuff and the constant nerfs/buffs concerns me. Sadly the game just feels like a never ending large Battlefield game to me at this point.

Still the best multiplayer shooter out there to me, but yea I play other games. I still dabble in Minecraft some.. but I have Crysis 3, and soon will have Bioshock Infinite.. not to meantion all the "free" games that came with my video card like Farcry 3, Sleeping Dogs and Hitman: Absolution that I need to play.... personally too many games for me to dedicate everything to Planetside 2.
Not to meantion Elder Scrolls Online starting beta soon... if I get into that then I probably won't touch Planetside 2 for a few months. I'm glad that I don't have to pay a sub for PS2.. just like GW2.. I can always come back if I feel like playing it without having to spend another $15 just to log in. |

Well.... I guess many people have abandoned the game, that's why the forums get boring as well. As long as it's just call of planetfield with no deeper strategy to it it will not be able to motivate people for much longer than 6 months. I personally just wait until they added continental warfare to really start playing again, the 3on3 circlejerk is just senseless, I just have enough of it. I guess that applies to many people and that makes the forums not really nice to read, but you know... it's the truth.

Since the beta the dev team has slowed down the information stream which was constant during beta. Less things to talk about means more speculation and pouting. With SOME the PS1 vets leading the charge of poutyness. There is a lack of new ideas flowing due to vets who quickly shoot them down pining for what PS1 had instead. Lack of info leads to lack of conversations.
I get it, I have been there, a franchise makes a turn away from it's core gameplay in some way and you feel as though they don't care or are taking some easy way out to appeal to other people rather than their previous customer. I have see this several times with BF3 being the most notable dissapointing games yet..... The reason I can understand SOE is because their previous game is 10 years old and they are communicating and having a conversation instead of DICE 's reaction of sticking their heads in the ground after lying to their customers about what BF3 was.....or rather what we were led to believe it was going to be. Time will tell with PS2, yea we would all like them to move faster and get more content out but in anycase it is a benchmark in gaming history if you can see the forrest through the trees. The game is still plenty fun for me. I've gone from lone wolfing to joining an outfit. I've gone and certed up my medic to work with an organized squad, which is completely different play than what I'd done in the past. I still lone wolf every now and then when I feel like changing things up. I find my fun in PS2.
I still read PSU, however now when I read something I don't agree with, I just move on. I've had the "you never played PS1 so you're not qualified to say anything" thrown at me often enough that I don't feel anything I have to say is worth the drama. I just come to PSU to find out what the latest news is. PSU is a good site to find the latest information, so it keeps me coming back. Anything tagged with "NEWS" I read automatically. Otherwise I read only if I really feel like it. |

I think this board is the best place to discuss Planetside 2 currently.
Reddit is the typical group think engine where the same stuff gets upvoted and the same stuff gets downvoted over and over and everyone knows it so nobody dares say anything new or stick to their guns on anything that isn't currently majority opinion. It's just not a place for useful discussion, their entire system is devoted to giving the imbeciles who think the majority is always right a big club to wield. The official board moves so fast the only way to get a thread to even have replies at all is to give it a really attention grabbing title that people will click because they want to see an internet fight, and an internet fight is exactly what you'll get. The amount of intelligent discussion going on there just isn't all that great as a result, and if it exists it's burried somewhere within the landslide of posts, so good look finding it. The roadmap is basically Reddit, so it's just as pointless as far as having a meaningful discussion goes. Then there is PSU, which is a much smaller community, where a serious discussion can be had because a post with a few replies will actually stick around for a week or so, so you can actually have a good overview of what people are saying. |
