Well....
If you want a real answer this is mine. What I think makes a great fan sight in the long run is content and simplicity. You can have the fanciest sight in the world, but if its a pain in the ass to get around, its no good. Sites like Alakasahm (sp?) for DAOC I don't like. They try to pack way too much shit onto a page and it just makes crap hard to find. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Check out http://www.classesofcamelot.com That is probably the best fan site out there. He has the most accurate information available, a lot of it fed from the fan base b/c mythic can't get their act together. Its not the worlds greatest layout. But shit, it takes me 2 min to find anything I need if you just think logically. So first, you need a lot of information, good and accurate. Establishing a relationship with the gaming company is always a good thing. But the fans will learn to trust what you say if you have accurate info and will come back. Second, keep it simple. Easy to navigate, quick to get around. Don't be so caught up in animated menus and such that you lose simplicity. 99% of the time all that crap just become annoying and slows you down after your first initial "Wow neat stuff". What would I like to see as a n00b looking for info? Simple breakdowns: -Realms (Race, whatever the call it) -Weapons (By realm) -Vehicals (By realm) -A very indepth and accurate, easy to use FAQ -If you read the FAQ on classes of camelot you basically know 90% of what you will ever need to know about the game. -Sieges (details about taking forts) -Maps (One thing you can't beat in MMOG is maps, but you may just want to link to sites with them, let someone else do what they excel at, just provide easy access) -Leveling (MMOG there has to be some kind of persistant economy or such. Ways to make your toon better? Better equipment, training in vehicals and such) -Links (Link to everyone and their mom, thats fine. But make the important ones stand out. ) My 6 cents. Keep it as informative, accurate, and simple as you possibly can, be better at those things than the other guys, and you will have the #1 fan site. Oh yeah, no adds and pop up really help |

What I don't understand about pop-ups is that they are EVIL. Everyone knows that, everyone hates them. Why do the advertisers continue to plague us with them? If it was a product that under normal circumstances the viewer would be interested in, they immeadately loath and despise the sight of it. It's always good to barrage customers with advertisments, but if they're interactively annoying or cause problems, they'll lose business.
Or at least that's I think. As for the perfect site... What Rayzer said. And while I think simplicity is generally good for websites, I did grow accustomed to Allakhazam's for EQ. While it was incredibly packed per page, all information and links to that information were straightforward and easy to understand. And I do think that fan-sites for games are for information as opposed to just lookin' purdy. And while I love eye-candy as much as the next person, it shouldn't be what it's all about... unless it's a site dedicated to eye-candy. And if PSU is planned to be the end all get all of PS info, then you staff and staph members are in for a reel treat. While it is technically easier to maintain current info for this kind of game as opposed to a game such as EQ, AO, or DAoC (not worrying about every single little item obtainable for every god-forsaken quest) it will still be a lot of work to keep info current and universally gud. And if you need any help in that aspect, I'd be glad to offer my services. Of course, I'd understand if you don't want any of my help though... I'd be a little sad, and my self-esteem would probably crash down into the deepest depths of the darkest drainpipe, but I'd be okay. Eventually. And my former English Teacher would love me to death for starting each paragraph with "and," over and over . Great word, and is. Probably the best conjuction out there, with the exception of but. Then again, I guess it depends on who's.

I was thinking that once the site is out we might be able to have a "News Paper" type of section and report on diffrent in game events.
Don't you think it would be cool if you ot to work in the morning and could read up on the diffrent battles that had occured, or on what Outfits had clahsed. Be pretty cool, but we would need some roving reporters to help gather up the stories. |

I want a lag free environment!
Has there been any word as to what the servers will be like? I am curious if it will be anything like the other games in this style of play.

Of all the things I have heard EQ players say I have never heard them complain about the servers. Then again when someone tells me they play EQ I'm usually laughing to hard to hear much of anything they say. |

... I was actually just giving an example, you know... like, uh, I didn't actually ever play the game. I just knew about that site. Because... um... because I like to surf sites about games. A lot. Regardless of whatever game it is. Yep. And as long as no backround checks are issued... I have never played EQ. In fact, the only thing I know is that it's a MMORPG that was made by Verant Interactive. That's all. Any balance issues or actual things regarding in game things I know nothing about. ZERO. If you were to ask me how to complete the Wizard's Acumen Mask quest for the Temple of Solusek Ro, I would shrug. I would not know that the items you have to get and turn in are a Bonechiped mask that drops from a Goblin Headmaster in the Ocean of tears, a glowing mask that drops off a skeleton monk in Upper Guk, nor would I even have guessed that I need a darkbone Mask from Unrest. And it would be beyond me to find a patch of shadow that drops, obviously, from shadow men that is also needed for the quest. So it would be no big surprise that I would not know the stats on that mask, which is 5+ int, 3+ wis, and an effect of Gaze. So it is quite obvious I have only heard of that game from friends of mine- er, who aren't friends anymore. Because I don't like EverQuest. None of my friends play it. As soon as they said they played it I was like, "Jeez! You're not friend of mine since you play that game." Yeah. And that's the truth.

Don't get me wrong Zarp, I have nothing personal against EQ players, it's just that most of the ones I have talked to are, well to say the least a little odd.
I mean who doesn't enjoy the ocasional romp through the dungeon to slay an evil Dragon and rescue the damsel in disstress? Infact just last night I was telling Arg that we should try and get a little NWN action in this weekend. It's the EQ players that go on and on about how they own a Tavern, or that their crops are going to be harvested soon that I don't get. Hell some of them have hardly even slain a cave rat much less gone on an adventure!!! Call me crazy, but the last thing I want to do when I get home from work is to fire up a game and spend another 8 hours at my "Online Fantasy Job". I'd rather just kill things p.s. I have never played it, and all I really know is that it's as addictive as herion and should be regulated by the FDA. |
