You get 3 points to spend on either,Str,Agility,Intel,Willpower, luck, speed or endurance. And say you used bow alot to lvl which takes agility, instead of raising agility only 1 it might raise it 2-3.And also char lvl doesnt always mean better.Im a lvl 20 thief/archer and have take down lvl 50 fighters and wizards by having good equipment, using good tactics and just overall skill.A lvl 10 Warrior who trains in sowrd nonstop could destroy a lvl 30 using a sword but has no skills in it.

I think part of the reason we're having trouble agreeing (those of us actually debating, not the 3 ass holes who came in here just to flame) is because none of us have tried showing what the "perfect" system is.
My idea of a perfect system would be a mix of AC, SWG, UO, and Diablo. Every skill in the game is in a list. The skills fall in 3 categories. Untrained, novice, master. When you create a charachter, all of your skills are in the untrained section. Your beginning charachter has some "proffesion points" these points can be used to move a skill from the untrained box to the novice box. More points can be used to move a skill from novice to master. Once you have a skill in the novice or master category, you can begin gaining "levels" in that skill by using the weapon/magic/defence/healing/trade/etc. We'll stick to swordsmanship for simplicity sake. As you use the sword you gain exp in swordsmanship. The tougher the critter you hit, the more xp gained. As you raise in "levels" of swordsmanship, your accuracy, speed, and damage increase. The amount of xp for "skill level" you get is also determined by if the skill is in the "novice" or "master" category. If you spend the points to put swordsmanship in master (thus sacrificing the points that could be spent on, say, archery) you'll advance quicker in swordsmanship. Once you hit certain "levels" in swordsmanship, you open up a new branch - like a technique. You can use your "proffesion points", a very small amount (compared to unlocking a whole skill), to open up that technique and you can begin using it, gaining levels in it as you use it (you still gain sword xp). As you kill you also gain "Charachter XP". This represents the amount of time in game you've spent killing things. As you level in this, you do not get hit points or additional mana. Instead, you get more proffesion points which can be used to train in new skills which you will have to use to become proffecient in. There would be skills to increase your mana, etc. They would need to be trained, however. HP would not need to be raised. You would instead put proffesion points into defence skills and get levels in them, thus making you harder to hit. This is, in my mind, the perfect leveling system. SWG came close, but missed the mark. Asherons Call was VERY close to this, and is why it has such a loyal base. Hopefully a game comes out soon w this system. |

Since when did games set in a fantasy world have to make sense? The whole point of using a fantasy setting is that they dont have to worry about it being realistic, as theres no such thing as being unrealistic in a totally separate world completely out of context with earth. You should use whichever system you enjoy the most, but you can't call the other one 'fucking retarded' just because you don't find it as enjoyable. I personally have never found any RPG except FFXI entertaining - does that mean they are all 'fucking retarded'?

Just because a game is based on non-reality doesn't mean the base systems have to make zero sence. Theirs plenty in games that DO make sence. When was the last time you played a MMORPG where the laws of gravity and motion did not apply?
Now guess which category you fall into? Reported. |

Sputty, I don't like you. Haven't liked you for a while. This is the first time i've reported you.
Why? Not because I don't like you - but because you came into a forum not to discuss a topic, not to participate (even if it was to disagree), not to even post a single word relating to the topic at hand, but instead - to bash. That's it, your ONE purpose for posting. The ONE purpose SDM posted. The ONE purpose Dhark posted. That's why they (and you) were reported. For having no other purpose in your post but to harass. |

Edit: You keep reporting people because they are off-topic? If Dhark or SDM created a 'Why Tek sucks' thread, you would report them for flaming. So how exactly do they express their opinions of you, and how would starting another thread about you be any different than calling someones belief of fun 'fucking retarded' because you don't agree with it? I'm sorry if the term "fucking retarded", when used to describe a coding system in a game, hurt your feelings on a personal level.
I'll try to be more politically correct next time and say it is... nm... even I can't be that sarcastic. Look, i don't see what point your trying to make Kalta. We're discussing systems. Coming in and saying "Omg! It doesn't have to be real!" isn't an argument. If you expect me to respond to it in a rational manner, stop. It wasn't a rational statement. [EDIT] The report button is meant to report harrasment. There is absolutely NO way you can look at those posts and miscontstrue them as anything OTHER than harrasment. That's why they were reported. |
