My main problem is that I don't see the value of a $500 upgrade to play a game, no matter how good it is. That's assuming I don't have to replace the motherboard/power supply. This machine handles the latest games (BF:V) with no problem. This machine is not obsolete, and I am not going to upgrade it at very least until summer 2005.

wow, do you not realize that HL2 is the "latest games" ???
 its not like its just one uber gameFar Cry Doom III Half Life 2 (and all its tasty mods!) etc.. etc... all require a fairly good comp. its not like that trend is just going to end with them. I mean can you even play UT2k4 decently on that? |

My PC handles UT2k4, PlanetSide, and will handle Doom III without a hitch. And the first two were handled with 512 MB ram. Now I have one GB.

ah well its not that surprising.. there are a ton of people who still have computers that can just play the original HL and its mods. (hence the sucky CS community now, which is why I think It'll improve somewhat with the new release)
sooner or later they have to upgrade, he may not see it yet but he will. some people dont need all the eye candy turned on in a game, i do
