So feel free to explain how I'm supposed to fight a zombie when I can't see where the hell he is.
One of the major complaints I've heard is that you can't shoot accurately in the dark, 'cause you have to put your flashlight away. This way, you can use it along with a weapon that isn't that powerful anyway.

I didn't particularly enjoy it.
Everywhere you go, there are zombies and weird dog things. Sure, its scary the first few times, but when you KNOW there is going to be one round every single corner, it's really not scary. Obviously the graphics pwn, but i don't think they are much/at all better than FarCry's, and while the shadow's are nice, i prefer the FarCry ones. In Doom, if your in a show you literally cannot see a thing, which may be realistic but doesnt make the best gaming experiance. I just prefered FarCry all over. The story is a load better, keeping in you in suspense for along long time, with plot twists and the like. Admittedly, i haven't played Doom very much yet, but it jsut seems like 'Opps, we opened a gate to hell - Now get out there and shoot shit, marine!" Also, FarCry still makes me scared [i havent completed it yet] because where often you are in the jungle, enemies can come from all sides. In Doom, it's pretty much the fact that if it isn't right in front of you, it isn't there. You can't 'use' anything, and beyond punching a few boxes, nothnig is very interative at all. Overall i just think FarCry is a better game, and made me a load more scared too, and still does. Also, the guns look nicer. Another thing about Doom is the random sounds. All it does is confuse you, not add to the experiance. There's jsut a laod of rattling and shit around, and you can look all you like but theres rarely anything there. This leads to a Boy-who-cried-wolf affect, where there normally isn't, but occaisionally is something there, so you never really know - the sound seems completely irrelevant to whats actually going on, making it totally redundant - you may as well play with the speakers off. One thing i lvoe, however, was the PDA. I loved the depth it gave to the characters, and was one of the few things that built up suspense before hell broke lose - "something weird is going on" etc. That was good. But after the gate is opened, all you do is shoot random things. I'm a little disapointed, but to be honest, i wasn't expecting a huge ammount. If you like your typical 'shoot everyhting that moves' games like Timesplitters and Serious Sam, then you'll love it - But just upgrading the graphics while keeping the exact same gameplay style as the original over ten years ago just doesn't cut it for me. In short, FarCry > Doom III, in my opinion. Last edited by Kaltagesta; 2004-08-03 at 01:33 PM. |

EB Games has Xbox listed for October 10th. ITs going ot have 2 Player Coop local and 2 player coop online as well. The Multiplayer is fun as well ive even found a few servers with more than 4 people . Some advice for you all the flashlight will quickly become your primary weapon because its scary and you just want to see light but luckily its very easy to switch to weapon flashlight just press F and it switches from flashlight to the last weapon you had selected. There is one part in the game that suprised me, basically there is an extra locker and you have to go to a website (im not making this up) and put in the keycode found on the site to open the locker. Its not vital but whats inside the locker makes your time well worth it. I wont say any more than that its great stuff though maybe some Doom 3 MP tonight. Ive already seen servers with more than 4 people.
