24 hours later and we're still getting wind gusts and rain.

NOAA says the storm's nearly over for us. We still have power, so thank God

THREE, DAMN IT! Three Goddamned times a hurricane eye has passed over my hometown. Who the hell is running the show up there? This last storm had me kneeling in front of a north-facing door from 2am to 7am straight, fighting back the flood waters, with howling winds up to 90mph, gusts to 103mph, windows rattling, with cows, gators, and oranges flying around outside. If we only lived on the coast, my luck would be complete. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful we're all uninjured, but shit, I'm so worn out now I could sleep for a year. PSUMA was a welcome holiday from Charley. Too bad PSUMB wasn't after Frances...and PSUMC after Jeanne. I could use those about now. But right now I couldn't care less if a stampede of rabid mutant beavers invaded Florida from Mars. They can have it. I'd just go to bed at that point and let them chew on my eyeballs or something fun like that.

I had the immense good fortune of weathering all three storms in Lake Wales, that's where the 'Rents live and since they're richer than I am, they had more supplies than I could hope to gather. So, Lake Wales. That's in Polk County, which is East of Tampa, South of Orlando, and SW of Daytona. Now follow the tracks of Charley, Frances, and finally Jeanne. Yeah...you see it, don't you. That's what I'm talking about. We're inland for cryin out loud and Lake Wales still got clobbered three times. Fucking hurricanes. I don't care if it's spilled milk, I'm tired of having to spend days at my parents cleaning up crap and staying down there without electricity, knowing my house in Orlando has never lost power and I could have been playing Planetside or doing something else equally entertaining but ultimately non-productive.

Next time I'm down at my parents' place, I'm going to paint a bullseye on the roof. You all can help me. And after that we'll have a great time cleaning up after Hurricanes Matthew, Nina, Oscar, and Peter.

/pointless rant off

Floridians are turning into zombies during hurricanes...we're waaay off our normal security procedures. People are tired of having to shutter up and live in a small, dark box. I expect fatalities to skyrocket.

He slept through it all. Even though all the trees were uprooted, the roof sprung a dozen leaks, and the garage ceiling collapsed into a mound of fiberglass. We also discovered he absolutely loves cold baths. The kid is going to be a survivor, that's for sure. Probably the next Crocodile Hunter or something. The only difficulty he had was in understanding what no-electricity means. He runs to the TV, pushes it on...and just sits there staring at a blank screen expecting Elmo to pop up. He was also shocked that the big oak with his swing was no longer standng up and was constantly trying to get everyone to look at it. Other than that, these storms haven't touched him at all. He gets a warm bath tomorrow though.
