this is a bullshit problem.
i've got an I.Q. of 154 and i can't fucking figure this out. i'm probably just too distracted to come up with something.. i'm playing battlefront, muahahaha 150, sorry.. my dad has 154... figures.. he owns a fucking print shop. intelligence never seems to end up where it should.

the point of the burning rope exercise is to demonstrate mental problem-solving capacity to the interviewer, as well as to give the interviewee an example of the sorts of problems they're going to encounter as a software support engineer. this particular part of the rope problem is also used to suggest another aspect of the puzzle-solving business: the possibility that there is no solution. faced with this option, many of the applicants opted for it quickly, others refused to accept it - neither of which is good neccessarily. of course, you see that there is a solution.
