I mean, they're adding in headshots this time. That alone will up the skill ceiling vastly. Aircraft are going to have much better done flight mechanics. Land vehicles have directional armor. Every single aspect of the game is having more detail to it, more stuff for people to make use of or have made use of against them in combat. I can't see how the changes to the game will do anything but make it "harder" for new players to compete.

Plus, squad leaders imparting actual benefits to their squadmates? That's pretty big. Classes forcing people to draw something based on benefits and negatives rather than being supersoldiers? The demand for good squad composition and coordination is enhanced by changes like that. So not only is actual, basic gameplay going to be "harder" when FPS gods shoot you in the face repeatedly and you die like a chump in the air to guys who'd been flying planes in BF3 or WW2OL for years make a mess of you, but the opportunity for good squads to excel is even more significant.

Unless you mean being unable to decide whether to bring an extra medkit or an extra box of ammo or something trumps all of those other changes.
The addition of headshots is going to do nothing but piss off more of the lesser skilled playerbase. A lot of the players that used to wipe the floor with people in PS1 are returning. And twitch is twitch meaning that those players will continue to dominate in PS2 just like they do in other FPS games. The addition of headshots and OSK snipers means that the learning curve for PS2 is going to be much steeper than was the case with PS1. Sure there may be much more detail in PS2 than was the case with PS1 but for many the baseline for game enjoyment of this game type is killing others to get shit done only in this case killing people is a natural part of the process of capping bases etc. End result? People will still moan because they will still get their ish handed to them on a daily basis only now with the addition of OSK snipers and headshots it will be much worse for them, as will their forum whining.

How easy will it be to get headshots with a sniper in PS2?

TBH I have no idea. All I am doing is speculating on speculation but the devs have mentioned things like bullet drop, headshots etc. Mind you they said headshots = headshots which kinda says one thing but doesn't say something else. Sure you may get shot in the head but it may not necessarily mean instant death, things may get hazy, movements may be slowed etc, we don't know yet. However if its in game some players will figure it out and master it. I really liked the Sniping balance in PS1 and was hoping it would remain the same in PS2.

That's true, but that's a byproduct of allowing the gap between the skilled and lesser-skilled players to lengthen. It's a byproduct of making a game that is entirely PvP "harder". I don't want to speculate on how well it will be received by players in PS1 used to just aiming for centre-mass all the time, but it certainly is evidence against the notion that Planetside 2 is being made "easier" than Planetside 1 as that other guy accused it of being.

LOL, I always sniped at the feet. But on the other hand - I'm quite sure that locational damage is something only a man that stopped playing games after doom 1 would feel distressed about these days.

It's looking amazing so far, really excited about the graphics.
I have my doubts about the mechanics and the little things that have been stripped out though.

How do you know it'll be master-able?

(I think you can see where I'm going with this.)

Speculate away, but to say headshots will do nothing but piss off the playerbase when we know nothing about their impact on gameplay seems premature.

Personally, I'd like to see sniping like PS1's, but without that massive reticule bloom every time you move the crosshairs. A reasonable amount of bloom is fine, but coupled with the mouse deadzone at x12 zoom, PS1's was rediculious.

Not 100% sold on OSK's.

Visual: 11/10 (frighteningly good)
Content: 9/10 (Mostly well done, a little disappointed to see the range of vehicles reduced a little and some of their abilities merged though)
Lore: 10/10 (bravo for keeping the NC/VS/TR)
Gameplay Mechanics: 5/10 (Disappointed with the rough direction and some of the decisions on the core fundamentals, but some positives too)

OBVIOUSLY this is based on just what we know so far.

The only way they can fuck up this game is by making the game this forum wants it to be. Never listen to the minor vocal audience.

Truth, some of the ideas people post on here make me wonder if they even played Planetside to begin with, let alone whether they know what the game is about.

Not just Planetside, but games and MMO's in general.

Never buff/nerf stuff because the forum told you so. If data shows you to do so and the forum is full of agreeing posts > then do something. If forums are full of whine and data shows you otherwise, do nothing. Data, data, data.

Never listen to the out of the hat 10% that bother to visit the forums. Elitist scum, most of us.

That's game development 101, surely?

I really hope your right, but I get the feeling that's not what the devs are aiming for. And why would they? making the game easier would attract a lot more people and net them better revenue.

Isn't that the point of the class system after all? Not only for managing your own character, but for identifying enemies on the battlefield. So if you are a max unit and that enemy is in rexo and just killed your friend with a JH, you know hes an easy kill. You might argue that it would actually be harder for the JH rexo dude, but having to wait around for someone else to come around with AV and take out that max isn't really hard. It's just boring.
