I think we should just be able to grab a gun with it's current ammo clip and run back to wherever to reload and get more ammo. Maybe grab an extra clip or two from the deceased. Would also be neat if we could loot fallen allies for extra ammo in those really close battles where rearming is not an option.

Yeah, you grab the fallen rifle and you get whatever it's got in it's clip. Maybe with an option to spend longer actualy "looting". I recall I think the first Tom Clancy game (RainbowSix) where you could so something similar, five seconds got you the enemy's primary weapon, a full thirty seconds got you their primary weapon plus all it's ammunition and any grenades.

Sounds like a good idea as long as It's implemented before closed beta to give time for proper testing. |

I think it should be in. It goes with the dev's mentality of "Play the way YOU want to play." It gives the option of being a loner rambo and living off the dead.
The flip-side should be that working with a team to resupply your ammo should be far more effective. Teamwork > All |

In a war you would be able to pick up an enemies gun and their explosives, however even today you could have it so a gun wouldn't respond unless a person had a computer chip embedded into them in some way. So you could always come up with a lore reason to explain why you couldn't pick up an enemies weaponry, especially why you had to specialise to do so. Seeing as it's already discussed that hacking vehicles may be going in. What's to say the same won't happen for ammo, etc. Main problem I see with this is the VS have completely different types of weaponry and even if there was a lore reason about how soldiers are able to convert vanu ammo. It potentially creates balance issues. Nevertheless that's the point of testing things, better to try and then have it taken out than just write it off straight away. I think in some ways it could add a fun aspect for defenders behind enemy lines... if you're holding out against repeated assaults with more attackers and your ammo supply line is cut off..the fact that you could maybe get some more ammo to hold out a little longer is pretty great. When ammo isn't a concern ever, it starts to become a bit silly. I don't know about you but it also provides more interesting situations to happen, if a player runs out of ammo and has to resort to using his sidearm that's a fun aspect for me. It actually adds more tension and more risk that just running and gunning without back up. I think there should be a cool down or getting ammo from your own faction supply chains should be better overall. Either through bonuses or even damage output wise. You could have to cert a skill called "Scavenger" or something like that. and the first point lets you pick up small weapons and have negative effects while using them, like higher recoil, lower accuracy, then as you put more certs into the skill, you can pick up more and more better weapons and they slowly get better and better up to about 90% effectiveness compared to the enemy that own the weapons.

I'm surprised no one else really has posted from the angle I mentioned earlier. To me looting has nothing to do with supplies and running out of Ammo. I want it for the sole reason that its super fun to pick up an enemy factions weapon when you never get a chance to use it.
It was a super fun part of the first game why remove it from PS2??? Like when you hacked an enemy Tank in PS1 people treated you like royalty, it was awesome! |

I too will miss the old looting system, however, I'm hoping something Smed said on these forums last year actually takes some form. A sort of drop system, perhaps there is a small chance that you can gain use of a new 'side-grade' that is 'found' on the corpse.
Ideally, there would be some rough analogue to PS1 looting, where you pick up 'x' amount of 'ammo' that just so conveniently works for your weapon. Then, we could do this another way, where any class that has the ability to drop ammo packs, automatically drops one upon death? (here's hoping these munitions packages have a limited inventory). |

I could see this being an item you can equip, an ammo converter, you interact with a body, you see a stream of nanites from the body and your ammo increases. By a small amount and it will take maybe 5 seconds, so it will only be useful in a calm scene or after killing someone on his lonesome.
