Ah, but if the corporations are behaving as you say they are, who says we won't overthrow them when we're done with you and the barnies? Face it Malorn von Metternich, the Republic's days are numbered!

In my view the Terran Republic represents continuity, and so defends the old ideals and symbols from earth as a way of maintaining order during the crises caused by isolation. The New Conglomerate are rebels who want to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue expanded freedoms now that they are out of reach of the authoritarian order back on earth, and the Vanu are basically progressive liberals who want to force their utopian visions on everyone else.

Weapons are being nerfed and un-nerfed constantly, I find that the immersion I gained from being able to identify strongly with a particular empire was definitely worth deciding based on lore.

That's very true. I need to remember this is not only a fps but a mmo that will be updated regularly. You may have sealed the deal for me on my decision with this post.

Edit: I'm getting the vibe that the slower rate of fire is more focused on coming from the vehicles than the actual weapons themselves. I feel that all factions will have similar weapons through certs or trade offs through the store. I'm leaning more and more towards nc

how can the TR be evil... they are fighting to RESTORE order, the NC do whatever the corporations want them to (so basically they are hookers for their corporation pimps to push around) and the VS are obsessed with technology and manipulating it to make better war machines (third reich anyone)

and for that reason i am TR, until death.

TR(sorry grammar nazis but writing with tablet is quite unconfortable, didn't played Planetside 1 soo I will have to grow loyalty while pkaying)
ok an oligarchic republic, no problem, it remember me the Venice republic, the colors too, a understimated republic unlucky, longest ever republic 1100 years of it, a simple city that stoped the entire ottoman empire in the battle of lepanto.

made this choice for tactics too

at the beginning the 0 recoil attracted me a lot from Vanu lasers but after a bit I thought that a bit of recoil is quite good, aim in chest for dealing massive damage and with weapon gettin recoil with the large amount of bullet from TR there is quite good chance of headshot, while from videos the recoil from Nc is just crazy exept Maxs they totaly loose control of the weapon if they don't kill with the first punch and I am curious if their AR let them do a 3 bullet option.
I thought also that 0 recoil was amazing for sniping but from one stream I saw the V sniper leave a laser trace of at least 500 meters that totaly burned his position

plus terrain advantage, just in case of losing and being in a defense mode, I like to play outnumbered, soo if there will be too many tr I will go V

After seing the tour around the continent is just my impresion or the TR have a better terrain, think of it, the canyons in Tr are thousand times better defendible than the Vs desert emptynes that allows you every kind of flank tactic that you want while in TR terrain few infantry will be able to old an entire canyon plus with fire output they got (soo fast it remember me the flak) they will be able to put a formidable fire wall plus being in base with possibility to resupply instantly will make it even more formidable(don't forget engineer mines).

soo at end with a carefull observation of all aspect I am surely going for TR

You know, all 3 factions remind me of the endings to the original Deus Ex.

The TR represent the They fight to maintain an order, even if it means remaining corrupt.

The NC represt the They see the corruption existing in the current government system, and wish to free humanity from it. Unfortunately, they will set back progress by centuries if they succeed.

The VS represent the The VS offer an alternative where the existing problems become irrelevant, and are simply sidestepped for a better solution.

Given that I picked the merge ending, the VS was an obvious choice for me. It should be for everyone else as well. You aren't forsaking humanity for something else. You're simply removing all the inherent human flaws and keeping all the good stuff. If you're NC or TR, you're trading one flaw for another. If you join the VS, you can grow past your flaws, and 'ascend' into perfection.

That's how a democracy works, not a republic. A republic strives to ensure the freedoms of it's people. Terran "Republic" is a misnomer. Paranoid classists and heavy-handed fascists; that's all the so-called republic is.

EDIT: SO...It's come to my attention they totally rewrote the backstory for planetside 2. Can't say I'm pleased.

not to nitpick, but the vanu weapons have the highest recoil in the game,

they just have no spread,

in other words, the bullet will always go exactly where your crosshair is pointed, but that crosshair is going to buck around a lot (but you can attempt to control it)

I was undecided too. Actually leaning a little bit towards NC just for the colors and the blocky look. Then my friends said they wanted to play VS. I was a little hesitant, but now I like it.

So what is everyone else's take on this?, have you all made up your mind yet?, or is loyalty a non issue and you just want to play whatever empire.
I'm currently undecided as well. Up until E3, I was trying to decide between TR and NC. I dig the whole "freedom fighter" appeal of NC, but I hope to join a well organized outfit and for some reason the TR strike me as the kind of empire that would attract the hardcore types.

The other consideration for me has everything to do with the empire specific aircraft. I'm all about the dogfight. I expect I'll spend about 75% of my time in the air, and some of the things I saw the Scythe doing at E3 made me start seriously considering VS.

I think its going to come down to the BETA for me. First thing I'm going to do is give each of the empire specific aircraft a test flight. If one of them stands out to me as the air superiority fighter of choice, and if I can find an outfit within that empire that displays the right balance of competitive drive and level headed perspective (it is, after all, a game), thats the empire I'll go with.

Assuming the Vanu were actually inherently superior to humanity in any other regard but their technology. Assuming that whatever course the Vanu put themselves on didn't actually destroy them and their civilization as opposed to 'ascending' them instead. Assuming that even if they ascended that mankind could too in the same way. Assuming that the telepathic links provided by some of their artifacts are working as intended and not giving false readings/false responses.

Assuming that even if they are working right that whatever is on the other end is being truthful.

Yeah. I'l be over here with my Jackhammer. Keeping mankind just the way it is, warts and all.

And just to prove I'm not totally anti-Vanu biased

That might've worked. If the TR had actually allowed elections after arriving on Auraxis instead of continuing the martial law they had promised would be removed once the planet and its people were secure. Two centuries later the military still held complete power and the people had none.

The corporations didn't bring war to Auraxis alone. They had plenty of help from the other side.
