if they take their time and do this game right it will avoid a lot of unneeded negativity. basically not release this game in the state bf3 was when it first launched. that game should have stayed in beta for about 6 more months imo.

The one main difference that Planetside has over those arena shooters is that it is an MMO. This basically means in a game like COD, if you type something, everyone can see it. It's an instant microphone to everyone. This isn't possible, at least right away, in Planetside. Sure you could type something to complain over local or broadcast, but that is still limited. As for Global chat, the CSR's did a good job of policing that.
Will people complain? Absolutely. Forumside is still alive and well. However, I think Planetside has more tools at your disposal to avoid those kinds of people if you want to, so it will be much much better than the other game examples the OP listed. |

A fun way that i've found out to deal with those whiny players, is to help them. Not to help them continue whining, but to help them become a better player.
"OMG ANYOONE WHO PLAYS MAX ARE NUUBS LEARN TO PLAY THE GAEM" In this case, instead of shunning them from the game and it's community, help them learn how to deal with maxes, or whatever they don't like. maybe suggest playing HA, or tweaking thier weapons to help with that situation. I found this strategy great on tf2 when the huge rush of f2p players came in. I found countless f2p players raging at engies with wrangler sentries. I would help them out, suggest a strategy they could use. it's pretty awesome when something like that is successfully done, because that makes an impression, and improves the skill of the player in question. Also, it throws them off guard; which is funny. Hope I helped! |

"Woo-hoo!" "Woo-hoo!" "Woo-hoo!" "Shazbot!" "Woo-hoo!" These two individuals were obviously exchanging insults about each other's respective mothers. |

From what i heard on TB's coverage talking about ps1 he said that only highly ranked people could global chat. Ps1 players confirm this?
So if that's true then new players cannot global chat anyways. If not its an idea about what to do about it. |

@Quantum Spices I think thats a great idea, if more people thought this way there wouldnt be so much negativity. @Original Poster: As far as the negativity in PS2? Yep its gonna definitely be there, its in everything now adays. The problem with the internet is that everybody thinks because their opinion can be heard that it should be heard. In real life that doesnt work because if you go popping your mouth off to somebody and being rude and condescending theyre gonna probably knock the hell out of you lol.I thik it all comes down to how well we as a community police it, and what natural barriers to this are in the game to prevent it. So I think theres a lot of factors that go into this that make PS2 different than most of these other shooters. All these have already been listed but ill relist them because I agree and think theyre good points. Factors that will prevent negativity: One is the fact that you can only talk to your faction so people wont be able to sit there and scream and act like a bunch of idiots at the enemy team because the only people that will hear them is their own team, and theyll probably eventually end up putting them on ignore if they continue which in the long run means they wont make many friends and get bored with the game pretty quick since its gonna be harder to lone wolf in ps2. Two is its a very team oriented social game experience and hopefully they see that and want to join in on that and in order to do that most people respond alot better to respectful communication than people berating them. So i think that will naturally balance itself out. Three, Sony said theyre going to have a actual team of living human beings policing hackers and things so Im assuming they will help police the chat as well if it got too out of hand i cant imagine them not stepping in and saying something. I understand general negativity will always be there im just talking about the worst case scenario. Four is this community as a foundation. Although sony is making all these kick ass promotional videos and advertising other ways, ive got a feeling the best advertising of all will be word of mouth, which means people coming into the game are going to be friends of people in the community here, so we can make sure they have a positive experience in the game and really enjoy themselves and it doesnt get to the point you have a bunch of pissed off frustrated players. Five I think alot of times when people bitch and whine in games its because honestly theyre bored, but theres nothing else to play atm so they go on there and entertain themselves otherways. Sad but true. Thats another thing that i think will prevent negativity, how could you EVER get bored of planetside 2? Theres always going to be stuff to do. I for one plan to play this game for the next good many years as do most of my friends. Sorry didnt mean to write a book, but i really think theres a lot of positive things PS2 has going for it that will prevent as much negativty setting in. The main thing that can be done is we ourselves step up and say hey, take that shit somewhere else we dont serve your kind here buddy. :Shrugs, just my two cents. @Quantum Spices
.... I wonder what part of the internet you've been on that I haven't? I've rarely ever encountered somebody emo-raging about something and been able to reason with them. That said... Who cares? Let 'em rage. Let 'em spam chat. It really doesn't matter. Now, where I'll get pissed off is if people spam VoIP. I expect, unfortunately, as good an idea as it is, 95% of the population will disable that within the first 24 hours |
