This does not fill me with confidence, to say the least.

Our biggest fear before these news has been the cash shop, and just barely managed to believe SOE will do it right. And now these guys are in charge of it for half the playerbase

In violation of German and EU privacy laws, Alaplaya publishes the real names on accounts which are past-due

anyone who wants an Alaplaya account should check that link.

I wouldnt touch that company with barge poles of any length.

They have been in trouble numerouse times for things such as breaching the data protection act and privacy law's if my infomation gets passed to these peoaple i will be mad ive canceld my account and taken off my relevant infomation and sony will have no right to pass it over or thell be violating there own tos where it say's they will not share our information

I appreciate higby having spoken up its more than we have gotten on the eq2 forums we haven't had any responses over there from anyone and people are mad

Yeah I imagine we're all feeling pretty gutted at this point but the ink on the contract has long since dried so I'm not quite sure what we can do. Honestly the notion that SOE are asking us for feedback is one of the most insulting aspects of this whole debacle. It's a total waste of time to offer any sincere feedback in regards to concerns with this multi-year, multi-million dollar, legally binding contract. SOE couldn't pull out now even if they wanted to - which I'm sure they don't, regardless of how many of us are furious at the idea of region locks and appalling customer service.

The link didn't work for me, but I was able to find the article through google. I would sincerely hope that SOE would keep enough creative control over their Intellectual Property that they could avoid something like this happening to Planetside 2. That Pay2Win crap is the fastest way to kill a f2p game and would do far more damage to Planetside than simply less than perfect customer service.

Fact is, while I can assume that SOE would still retain some control over their product, it's just an assumption by me and Pro7 may be able to do whatever they want after launch.

You're right. It's not a good sign. This is new territory for this company though, so I'm leaving open the possibility that they will give great service. And considering the opinion that many people have of SOE, it's possible they can give better service than SOE.

Oh i understand that and its a multi year contract.they could in theory expand there base of lawyers and find a loop-hole in the contracting to keep players happy but they believe its a good thing (or at least the busniss guys do) so thell be to busy patting themself's on the back

I have been playing this game, PS1 for 8 years. I enjoy it best when I play with my Clan, AT. To be seperated from my team mates by this thoughtless act is unacceptable. I do not believe I will be playing if this policy stands. Loyalty goes both ways, I can tolerate most of the nonsense that SOE has put out over the years but this one just goes too far, enough.

Minor update, though it's not new information at this point. I shot a short and sweet email to Smed about this:

Mr. Smedley,

Just imagine that gigantic amount of goodwill you can generate by announcing that, through some process, EU players will be allowed to join US servers and vice versa.

and his response came within 30 minutes:

Working on this. No promises

Sounds like the issue is not dead, but I can imagine it is very complicated. It may even not change until after launch if it changes at all.
