The PS1 death cam was waaayyy more exploitable than this BF-clone killcam. Players could hold doors open for minutes, get realtime risk-free intel of a room's defences, and talk about breaking persistance (unless you make up some lore about out of body experiences). The PS1 deathcam is way worse than what is currently in PS2. As much as I don't like the new killcam, I'd prefer it over the easily exploitable old ways. |

Third Person view in Planetside is way more exploitive than a kill cam. Basically summed up Planetside's close quarters combat... stand round a corner in third person view and wait for people to run by and quickly get them with a JH. Then you got the Armour repairer and Health repairer and topped yourself up because you were in an exosuit as everything else sucked. Oh yeah you had a Deci too to take out a Max in 2 hits which made them pretty pointless. Last edited by EVILoHOMER; 2012-03-07 at 03:40 PM. |

Staying in one spot will become the norm in a game like planetside. If you have a good position over the enemy then you should not have to worry about the noobs you are shooting crying to their outfit mates that they got killed by the person with brains that strategically positioned themselves on that ridge because it gives good cover and it isn't easy to spot you there. |

Keep it like PlanetSide 1. You can hover around your body before you "release". The killspam shows who and what did it. If anything, your death's killspam should show up in that box that has the click to release button.
Killcam is Call of Duty shit, and has no place in a tactical shooter game like this.

I cannot see a problem with a kill cam, it's highly unlikely he'll get to killing that camping sniper before being killed by someone else or by they've been killed or moved. Even in Battlefield when I see where someone has killed me from, I very rarely get to see them in that position again....... |

Maybe.
But that doesn't mean it didn't do a lot of things right which could easily work in Planetside 2. Just saying there needs to be a better reason to dislike an element than "It was in Call of Duty." |

I've had fights in PS1 where I've been in the same dam place for way longer than that simply because the sides are even. I actually like that about the game, not sure why, but I do. We will probably see the same thing in PS2. Even in the GDC demo we saw that the TR were holding off the NC pretty thoroughly, no movement at all until they were told to. Killcams just stop people being able to be sneaky or use their brain to get the drop on people. This COULD be stopped by an implant but why not just not have the need to use one? |

I just think it forces you to be more cautious generally, and just improves yr immersion. You died, you failed in keeping yourself alive. You shouldn't be rewarded for that by gaining knowledge of the enemy position. Just as you shouldn't be punished for killing someone by having your position completely given away, more than shooting does anyway. |

Let me amend my statement: Killcam is an arcade shooter* concept. *Arcade shooter meaning a small scale (8-32 players on an enclosed map), with near-continuous respawns and lacking a defined or meaningful objective (basically, an objective that does nothing but reset the game.)

Well, it might be slightly compromising verses an experienced player who has played on a specific map a gazillion times and knows the shape of every rock and the 360 degree backdrop to every tree. In a game as massive as PS2 is, do you really think this will happen? I don't think it will. Ever try to use BF3 style kill-cam information to feed your squad precise targeting information, only to get back a "behind which which tree" or "on top of which rock" response; questions that you are unlikely to be able to answer. Not too terribly useful from that perspective. As long as the kill cam is a close up of the shooter so as to not give away too much specific locational information, and only exists for a few seconds before prompting the player for a respawn location, then the positive purpose served is to let you know how you got killed more than from where. IMO, this is important player feedback. I really like the idea of a snapshot version of the BF3 style killcam on a short display timer. It gives the necessary feedback, especially if you add in class/kit selection info, without compromising the 10% on their play-style. I like this idea much better than the PS1 style killcam or no killcam. Last edited by Ragotag; 2012-03-07 at 04:08 PM. |
