Is this the 8800 you're referring to? http://videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.ph...Force+8800+GTX

According to that site, unfortunately, the 8800 is much better than my HD 6650M. That, or I'm lost and i'm looking at the wrong card.

I think the best thing we can do as a community is to keep the tech forum full of tech educated people that can assist people in building their own inexpensive computers. My friend just bought and built his new computer for Planetside 2 apparently using decent hardware under a budget.

Really we shouldn't be placing unreasonable expectations on Planetside 2's minimum specs. Running on hardware that barely ran PS1 for instance shouldn't be expected even on low. People seem to blow this out of proportions. If someone wants to play this game they know they'll need a decent computer. The same thing when people wanted to play BF3 and upgraded to run it.

The last thing I'd want to see is for the minimum requirements to actually cut into the gameplay experience which was one of my original fears, but it looks like they aren't doing that. (No turning off smoke or turning it down to see through it and such or so it seems).

I guess graphics cards use their imagination to complete the graphics pipeline.

Hah alright alright, what I meant was that there is a shit ton to process in terms of CPU, especially since this is an MMOFPS. Most MMO's require a decent processor over a video card, this one requires a decent both.

Does anyone know if this is stupid? Mind you, I'm not going for an ultra-high framerate or anything, since I was only a console gamer until about a year ago, and I hear those have low framerates compared to PC's. I also have no problem with having an even lower framerate than that for the game, since I'm used to that on my crappy PC. If it means anything, I can run Crysis Warhead on minimum settings smooth enough.
I guess it's sort of annoying to just bring this over to the next page, but I think some people might not have noticed it on the bottom of the last one, so yeah...

Yeah. I'm hoping that PS2 makes good use of PhysX to pull that load away from the CPU though.

Don't worry guise, a little birdy told me that your GPU wont be the main contender in this game, it will be your CPU. I see it if you have a quad core or a really nice dual core or a GPU that makes up for it you will be absolutely fine.

Quads are pretty much standard now...

Anyways I've heard someone say they ran it fine on a Pentium 2 dual core with 2 gb ram with low settings. Not proof by any means, but we might be okay.
My desktop is a dual core 3.2ghz, 6gb ram with a 1gb NVIDIA gpu. So far I haven't had any issues running BF3, Arkham City, Skyrim, etc, etc.

I can run these games on high or mixed med-high graphic settings, no probs.

In my experience many of the advanced video settings in games disadvantage players, not the other way around.

Fog/Dust/Cloud Cover, in past games as examples with these removed you usually had an advantage over someone dealing with them.

Smedley didnt say that an 8800 would not work, he just said that a core 2 duo and a 8800 probably doesnt make the game very fun due to performance obviously being quite bad.

I'm pretty sure you can get the game running, but probably at minimum with low FPS

You can't expect that when they say "5 year old systems" would mean that the same 5 year old system gets the same performance as a newer system That said, Ive understood there's been quite a leap in these 5 years and I believe the "end of dual core's reign" was in the beginning of those 5 years and then quad cores came along and were vastly superior and they arnt even expensive.

Wow, what an incoherent post... I'll blame it on leaving on a 8 day business trip and most likely missing some PS2 goodness thanks to that.

I just spent 600 quid on a travel system (pram), 200 quid on ladders, another 300 quid on a new front door - run a car, have a house. That's excluding...car seat, getting married last year 10K.

Goddamnit I want to be a student/kid again and spend 1400 quid on a computer jesus!

It's your fault for getting married. The #1 trap that gamers fall into. Next she'll be bugging you to quit playing video games because they're for children. =P

Well, anyways, if people still have 6 year old GPUs then I really doubt there's hope for them. Personally, I upgrade every 2-3 years.
