The only reason lots of people have the compensator AND forward grip is because they don't know how to control the massive recoil on it. The high bullet spread is enough of a so-called "nerf" to the weapon, that it doesn't need anything else. In fact, I've beeen contemplating on getting a scope for it for the rare occassions that I DO use i (I seem to be able tobetter control recoil with scopes rather than just iron sights). And this isn't coming from a strictly NC perspective, for I have been up against it PLENTY of times while on my other two alts (who shall not be named and shamed :P).
I've tested all three starter LMG weapons extensively. With and without attachments.

The CARV and Orion are very similar in many respects. Their attachments are identical.

The problem with the Gauss saw is that it has very little horizontal recoil, as compared to the CARV, which has atrocious horizontal and vertical recoil. Vertical recoil is much easier to control with your mouse by pulling down as you shoot.

That said, the Gauss saw is the ONLY lmg (unless the Vanu get one) that has an ADV Grip, Compensator, and Velocity ammo. Combine that with the fact that the grip is incorrectly lowering vertical recoil and stacking with the compensator, the Gauss SAW becomes and INCREDIBLY accurate gun when ADSing. The bloom when ADSing isn't that bad either, and it can easily be controlled by burst fire. This is true for the CARV as well, but the horizontal recoil really murders you at range.

The hip fire isn't that great, but now without the flinch mechanic it isn't very difficult to ADS people up close with any weapon, and with the low recoil, the Gauss SAW can power through people even when getting hit.

My biggest question is, and I keep asking this, why does the Gauss SAW get all of the best attachments while the other two starter LMGs clearly and deliberately do not.

That said, I'm glad they're finally addressing this, and I'm glad the CARV is getting "un-nerfed" from the days they fucked it up, but I hope they don't go too overboard. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

While I agree with everything you've said there even with ADS on the gauss saw you can't reliably spray people down unless they're within a good 30m or so, something any LMG can pull off.

Where my gripe with it starts is the bloom which to my knowledge is the highest of any LMG (Will back this up with stats in an edit). So even with the bugged recoil helping it the bloom would have your shots going all over the place regardless of compensating for the recoil.

*EDIT* Stats pulled from the data sheet here: http://tinyurl.com/b2g79mq

NC6 Gauss Saw: CoF Bloom/Shot ADS: .07 - Hip: 0.14
T9Carv: ADS: .05 - Hip 0.1
Orion: ADS: .05 - Hip 0.1

Something else I thought I would throw in was the RoF for the three starting LMG's, the Orion and Carv sharing a RoF of 750 while the Gauss is sitting at 500.

The weapons simply have trade offs, while you can debate some are better than others it is what is. If you wanted some heavy hitting guns you should've joined the NC with the real men. ;3 Jokes aside, what do you guys think?

I believe the vanu Polaris has adv fgp and compensator as well as adv laser sight, and I THINK it has HV Ammo

I think it was more to do with Engineers dropping ammo packs on the ground and then people just spamming the lolpipe over and over, it's the resupply speed not the reload time that's been changed

The fire rate of a smoking Engy = resupply rate of underbarrel smoke grenades.

You can still fire 2 shots at pre-patch speed, but every shot after the 2nd will effectively have a longer reload time (since you will not start reloading as soon, since you have no ammo until the resupply tick).

I wonder if they fixed underbarrel resupply as well. I run a smoke engie and sometimes I can keep an entire building choked with smoke for a fight and times I can't fire more than 2-3 rounds before all ammo packs stop giving me ammo. A chunk of time I even can't refill my ammo pool to 100% and have bullets missing until I respawn.

A slower supply rate is needed as you can fire 6-7 smokes now before the first dies out, but it can be hard to even keep ammo in underbarrels for me without deaths. Yesterday I had a life where I couldn't get a single smoke resupplied and I had a near perfect position to flush out an enemy group behind a few rocks so that my team could finish them to take/use that cover. Fired 2 smokes that spawn and never got a single one back out of any ammo pack.

SAW: (0.07 bloom/1 shot) * (500 shot/1 minute) = (35 bloom*shot)/(1 minute*shot) = 35 bloom/minute

Orion & Carv: 0.05 bloom/shot * 750 shot/minute = 37.5 bloom per minute

Orion and Carv cone of fire blooms 7% faster than the more accurate SAW.

The VS Polaris was even better (in terms of accuracy) than the SAW before the patch. It was, by a large margin, the most accurate fully automatic (infantry) weapon in the game. Even the long range ARs didn't compare to the pinpoint laserbeam of a Polaris w/ Adv Grip and Comp. The low damage and long reload of the Polaris kind of sucks though.

I don't have a problem with removing the vertical recoil stack on the forward grip. That seemed to be abit OP and effects all weapons that have forward grip.

I do have a SERIOUS problem with introducing scope-sway to all 6x scopes. It is extremely fucking annoying because I can't control the sway. I don't care if i can manipulate or get a grip on it but it's just another factor taken out of the players control. UGH. I'll never use more than 4x scope again. Now we NEED 5x scopes WITHOUT sway.

But they are adding in the breath mechanic I thought? hold down shift and sway goes away. I think that's a good balance idea. So you don't have LMGs sniping people across the map. Having to stop, hold shift, and aim, makes the gun a little more skillful to use at ranges not normally used by LMGs. Gives the snipers a chance to murder you for trying to beat them at their own game. That's their world you're trying to mess with, afterall.

Or, just use a 3.4 scope like me LOL. Works fine for what I need it to do.

Pretty sure lattice isn't happening yet, but harasser and MAXes probably are.
