The thing is, 99.9999% of the players playing an FPS know its a GAME. They enjoy the contest of intellect and skill in the enviroment of "killing" thier opponent, which if you think about it, is a rather silly way to look at it, since they will just respawn anyway....

See now that just tells me that none of you understood what I was really getting at in the first place. Which I can only blame myself for I guess. but i think Airlift has the right idea. Obviously wildlife isn't essential or necessary but all I was getting at is that for me it would make the game seem much more real and indepth.
As far as the killing goes I wasn't arguing that taking out players online isn't fun but rather what makes it fun to some people. Some, usually yonger people, or at least I thought, like blood and guts so they get a thrill outa taking out people online cause they feel like they are really killing which in my opinion is whats very wrong. Viewing it as just a game where your taking things out regardless whether its other players or something else for the challenge and gameplay however is different. |

Why does everybody always blame it on the younger kids But anyways, even if it adds depth, who the hell would want a damn animal walking right into a firefight... or if the animals actually have enough AI, who would want to be trampled by a stampede of rabbits!

If what Hamma says is true I could get a team of 3 people to code planetside in about month. Everybody would a floating round ball. Blue, red, or black. You could switch weapons but their would be no graphics. Mountains would be big polygon pyramids and bases big cubes. Is this what you want to play? No. The whole point of a persistant world is Immersion. If you want to play a strict FPS game go play Quake. If you think this is going to be, log in, shoot em up, die, respawn, shoot some more....I have a feeling its not the game for you. Gameplay. Its all about gameplay. What enhances gameplay? That is the ultimate question. First and formost is style of play. First person view, gravity, guns, shooting, killing, planes, etc. Great we have all those things. If you put the best game play in the most basic world you are still going to have a shitty game. And at the same time if you have best graphics and horrible gameplay....shitty game. Its a combination of both. Flock of geese.....or whatever. Flying you little plane, two guys hot on your ass. You see a familiar spec on the horizen....a flock of geese. As you buzz them they scatter, a few get caught in the intake of you persuers planes. Slows em down enough to let you escape. Same thing as hitting the deck and flying through a canyon or buzzing around a mountain. It is all about enhancing game play. The comment about fluff is totally ignorant. Any moron can program a game. Fluff is that last 5% of development that makes an ok game amazing. It is the crap that makes you go, "Oh damn, that is sweet." Does planetside need roaming hordes of buffelo? Probably not. Does it need fluff and tons of neat stuff added to make the environment more immersive? Of course. Fluff like that doesn't add to lag and ping. The server knows where all that crap is. 250 people fighting over a base....well you have all kinds of lag issues. You probably wouldn't want your grazing heard nearby then In short. Stop yelling at the guy because you are biased against role playing games. A MMOFPS has just as much need for immersion as a MMORPG does. If it didn't...why the hell would you play it? Who wants to fight in a persistent world that isn't worth fighting in? |

I dubt the blood and guts are the motivating factor for most players. The real joy comes from defeating an intelligent and resourceful enemy. That's why the lamest competitve multiplayer game can be more engaging than the single player games with the best AI. No matter what, your enemy is essentially unpredictable and can always suprise you. And when you do beat them, you have the express knowledge that you outsmarted and/or out-executed another thinking human being.

Well thats hardly a strong argument.
I mean you could say the same thing about the graphics and such. 'Its WAR' not a place to go sight-seeing and have a picknick in some dewy meadow. But yet you can't argue that the fact that they've made the scenery look so good will deffinitly make the game funner to play will it not? Then wildlife is the same thing. 'Looks' do matter. Granted they arn't everything but they diffenitly add to the game. |

First off, This has nothing to do with RPG's.. if it did PS would have apartments, money.. etc. Fact of the matter is its an FPS, its also new type of game. Id rather have the devs concentrating on gameplay rather than messing around with a flock of geese or somthing, its just un-needed. Its taken 2 yrs to develop without those things so obviously it cant be done in a month.
Bottom line, u want a petting zoo, buy a zoo game. You want war on a massive scale without worrying about geese getting in the way, play PS. No matter how much we debate this minor factiod its going to remain the same, there wont be any roaming animals at least not for release.. its just not part of this type of game - and it should not be. Focus on gameplay, not fluff |
