That's the best part! I would prefer the system I think Sky mentioned in another thread though; less certs than cert options, with the option to re-spec once in a while.

Their outfit and as a result, their empire. Organisation and teamwork(including specialisation across multiple roles) gets far more 'stuff' done than the same number of zerglings.

Okay. You're in a dedicated gal dropper outfit and you have limited certs - you have a handful of gal pilots with the really good utility certs. What do you do when those gal pilots aren't around? Probably the same thing a WoW guild does when its tanks or healers aren't around - pug those roles, have other people respec, or do nothing. If things are so harshly limited that you can't respec, well...

The zerg is also necessary and aiding their success isn't any less legitimate, and people will definitely be more willing to pick up and occasionally use those beneficial supportive certifications if they knew it wouldn't hurt them in the long term with regards to having their fun shooting people.

There's also the question of whether or not those theoretical "really good" support certifications should exist in the first place - but it would probably be okay given they'd be of benefit to a greater number of people compared to personal "I KILL YOU BETTER" certs.

Exactly this. There doesn't need to be a restriction on what you do because most people will do that on their own. Many days I honestly could have played PS1 with 6 cert points and a single implant slot, as I spent the entire night in a tank.

Conversely, even if I'd had access to aircav, I'd have rarely ever used it, since I didn't care for it. I didn't find it fun.

Look at TF2. You have access to all classes in that game. I'd bet most people have spent 75% or more of their time in 3 classes. Scout, my third most played class, has far and away more than the last 6 classes combined.

But if you suggested locking me out of those 6 classes I rarely used, I'd be pissed. I like that I can try them out any time I want, or fill in a spot on the team if nobody else is willing. I don't like medic, but sometimes, on rare occasions, I'd fill in if nobody else wanted to.

PS1s system prevented that entirely.

Oh, and access most definitely does not equate to mastery. This is an FPS. You're supposed to get good at stuff. Just because you have access to a weapon doesn't mean you can use it well.

Fly to the dropzone in a Gal with a larger turning radius...? You're taking specialization to the extreme with the presumption that an outfit does't have sufficient flexability to respec or have any 'jack of all trades' as the outfit may need. The combination of the two is more than enough.

Can't we wait till beta before we decide if the system is broken or not? These kinds of posts would be a lot more well defended and valid if we were talking about something that wasn't in alpha. Who knows, lots of things could change during beta.

Last time I checked this is a discussion board. Where you....you know...Discuss things. Nothing wrong with doing what we're supposed to. If anything, knowing how much Higby and the other devs frequent the board, we might make an influence on them and have them change the particular problem we're discussing before it's an integral part of the game and can't be removed.

If you don't want to read threads or posts about people discussing things that haven't been released yet then....Don't click on the thread! Problem solved!

Well it was mentioned in previous TB vids that the cert system had undergone a reworking, this was the 'unveiling' of the changes, yet it appears as though the 'BR40' aspect of it hasn't changed at all.

Hence my sensationalist first post that the reincarnation of the super soldier (actually able to do everything, this time, instead of spending all your certs just to kill infantry/maxes within 20 metres... inside a base... or a tower) is upon us.

All you have to do is pretend everyone has a maxed tree, and then it's similar to other shooters in that regard; what differentiates people are the class loadouts.

I'm just trying to defend against all the "The sky is falling" posts I see, which are all over the place it seems. I just wish people would have a little more faith in the devs and what they're doing with the game

SOE has proven time and time again that they are the masters of fucking everything up. Our seemingly irrational fears and quarrels with the game are actually validated when it comes to the nature of SOE.

Then when I get bored of that I can just go hop into my pimped out Scythe sitting 1km up spamming fire n forget missiles (certed) whilst spinning around on all 3 axis popping flares/chaff and firing rainbow lazors (customised) like some spiky disco ball of doom.

Then when that gets boring I can go hop in my schweet Magrider with Magburner (lets me chase down enemy air) mow some people over and occasionally snipe tanks/aircraft/gods with my railgun which is oddly a fixed forward mount, yet every other tank has independent turret movement, oh well.

Then when I've single handedly destroyed the continent I'm on and the next one over, caused all the TR and NC to log off in disgust and all the VS to spam /em cabbagepatch and run around like headless chickens looking for someone to zerg 600-1, THEN I will ponder how overpowered I would have been if an inventory system had been in too!

Just a quick reminder of the OP.

Nice one Bobby. I read this in all innocence and thought "wow, I would love to play a game like that especially as it would take me a long time to cert out in the classes that let me do it. I can't do it all at the same time as I could in PS1"

You went a bit OTT with the 600-1, cos with the new TTK you won't get far, but apart from that you described a fucking fantastic video game!
