Beta this Month!

Your welcome for asking that question. I am Nevie Shaffer, i just thought of asking him that question today after i got my beta key. Saw this post on this site and decided to make an account to say your welcome!

At E3(which was the first week of june)they said closed beta will beging within a few weeks by the end of the month.
It didnt happen.
Just saying...

So your saying when I got the president of Sony Online Entertainment to confirm that the beta will be before august is just telling us lies?

I've listened/read pretty much everything so far... And I do NOT remember anyone saying 'by the end of the month' in regards to beta until today. There was a plurality of weeks until beta as of E3. Only NOW do we have a 'by the end of the month' and the month is July and I'm happy happy happy.

In a broad stretch, a few weeks can be anything under two months. If they're not certain if it's going to be slightly less than a month or slightly more than a month, a few weeks is actually more appropriate than saying "beta will be in a month."

Unless you can provide a source where they actually said "by the end of the month," because I don't recall anything that specific and it wouldn't surprise me if that was speculation extrapolated from the "a few weeks" statements.

As far as I can recall, "a few weeks" was the most solid information we had gotten to date, and "before August" is now the firmest due date we've gotten. But again, if you can provide a source, I'll concede. For now, I'm pretty sure they've just been deliberately vague and playing a little fast and loose with unspecific terms such as "a few."

I wouldn't call Smedley a liar.

But he's already predicted beta for spring of 2011.

He also said he had some AMAZING updates for SWG that we'd all love
(if you played SWG, you know exactly what I'm talking about).

He also said they weren't going to call this game Planetside 2.

Not a liar. Just not infallible.

sorry but how is this a big deal? the previous post smedley made about "we are starting to do technical phase in a couple of days" and higby's "haircut appointment" gives me a better time frame then "it's going to be this month".

pretty sure in around 2 weeks things will happen.

True that, but it's slightly apples and oranges in this case. We've known PS2's beta was getting closer and closer lately, and now we've slowly been getting less and less vague indications of when it will start. Considering that it's unlikely that they'll pull another Planetside: Next by rebranding Planetside 2 and putting another year or more of development into it before showing anything more, I'd say that this is a pretty easy statement to consider plausible. Worst case scenario, they run into a snag and have to push it back a little further, but that could happen at any point in the process, so knowing that they think they are just about ready for beta is pretty cool.

Agreed. I'm pretty confident this time around as well.

I'd think not even PC Gamer-key owners are certain they will be allowed into the beta before the end of the month. They will certainly let people trickle in beta in groups, I'm just hoping they will do this on a fairly regular basis, can't wait to 'test' the game.

I've been pretty confident since E3 that the beta would start in July. There was a part of me that hoped it would start a week or two after E3 but I knew it was wishful thinking. I'm just excited that it's literally going to be soon, and not vaguely soon =P

Also, for anyone who doesn't have a key yet: Stop slackin and get on twitter!! The twitter keys are super easy to get, just get involved with their contests and be cute, they like cute

My account says nothing at all because i dont have a damn key.

dunno but im not into begging for a key on damn twitter.facebook or whatever stupid social networks they have these days(they call it social but in my eyes social is talking to a person in real life instead of those jumbo bumbo crap they do these days.)
