So Sony conference ended. They didn't even mention Planetside 2. Showed off Destiny instead which just looks like a prettier Borderlands so far.
Interesting things though announced in a rush at the end were that it's going to cost 399 dollars. Will allow you to play used games, and not need constant internet connection. And they were very sneaky about it but mixed in with that good news they said playing online now requires a membership fee similar to how X-Box has. I wonder if that fee will be waived for Planetside 2. If not then it's not really Free 2 Play unless the person was already paying membership for other games. lol |

I'm not complaining about anything, just pointing out the obvious reasons for SOE's decision to split the platforms. |

I'm 100% with exile, but it seems like this particular discussion isn't going anywhere.
However, I'm 100% sure that servers will be separated and guys on forums will butthurt loud cause they wont be able to teach console naps how to play PS2 "properly". |

I think you both are underestimating consoleers. I fully expect them to end up the dominant population in PS2. If we all share servers, PC will be the minority, easily. I really don't see what all the doom and gloom is about. The issue isn't the controller, I know some PC players that use one. Hell, I know one that uses a fracking trackball.
In any case, PC or PS4, it won't matter, people will play the way they want with the human device interface they want. |

PS4 price point is much more favorable than the Xbox One, I think also it may have better hardware with less of the bullshit that Microsoft is exploiting from their customers.
So PS2 Being F2P for the console maybe a large attraction for gamers that maybe already operating on a budget. Either way, there will be a PS4 fan base. We can either welcome them with open arms and share knowledge, or we can chastise as the PC Master Race and how dare they play OUR game. One of those statements is routed in reality, the other is just a perceived reality in some people's minds. I for one say if there is a viable K+M option for PS4, than they should merge the player bases. I think it would be something really special to see cross platform play. |

PS+ (monthly sub) is required for PS4 multiplayer. People are assuming Sony are putting their F2P titles behind that pay-wall. Doesn't this kinda bugger the whole F2P angle? I mean its designed to lower the barrier to entry as much as possible right?
With people paying PS+ for online games they already want to play, how many people will even bleed through to the numerous f2p games with slow ass unlock grinds and vague/perceived pay2win. They'd need to be exempt from the PS+ requirement (PS+ equaling subscription benefits?), but that'd be so inconsistent it'd probably result in a bunch of complaints. It's just a simple matter of risk/reward, why would SOE add any additional risk without a major incentive? What is that incentive? And yes, I am classy as fuck. |

Here is an article that was widely circulated some years ago about how the XBOX dev team tested out built-in crossplatform play for XBOX 360 and scrapped the idea after they saw console players getting consistently destroyed by PC players: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...-Platform-Play And you can argue that it's just a rumour, but you know why everyone reported it? Because it makes perfect sense to anyone who's ever used a mouse. And trackballs are actually fine, they don't have the inherent physical limitations of a controller. Well like the article said it wasn't just some rumored test. It was actually tried with Shadowrun, and it doesn't work. KB/M IS way better for shooters. It's just a fact. Some people may prefer Gamepad but it is not as fast, and accurate as a Mouse for aiming. Mouse was designed specifically for fast accurate pointing to a spot on the screen. Thumbsticks were not. That's why almost all console shooter have aim assist.
Which is just one of the reasons why cross platform play is not happening. People here shouldn't even really be expecting the possibility of it. Aside from KB/M vs Gamepad issue. There will probably differences under the hood in how the client runs on PC vs PS4. And they run on different networks. In the past Sony didn't let this stop cross platform features but now that PSN is a premium subscriptions based service they might not be willing to allow people on this service who are not paying for it. |
