Re: Circumcision

It's a silly tradition and should be banned until the boy turns 18 and can make the decision for himself. As was pointed out, it is not required for the health or safety of the baby, and is done for purely aesthetic and religious reasons.

What if a religion had a tradition that every first born should have one of their eyes taken out? Or have their pinky finger clipped off? See how ridiculous that sounds? Circumcision is no different IMHO. It's performing unnecessary and irreparable mutilation to their child and should be outlawed. I'm all for freedom of religion, but this crosses the line where it is a physical consequence rather than mental.

I dare any proponents of circumcision to read this and continue to defend it: http://www.norm-uk.org/circumcision_lost.html
I wonder how far a civil suit would go... I for one don't much appreciate being cut.

Some of the comparisons here are a bit far fetched, you must admit. Taking eyes out compared to cutting foreskin?

I have zero issues with the fact that I'm circumcised, everything works fine, etc.

That said, its an unnecessary procedure, and I don't think we need to be cutting bits off of babies that don't need to be cut off. I'd be fine with a ban, but I'm also not going to get worked up over it, because of the simple fact that I haven't apparently suffered any/many ill effects from it, nor do I remember it.

My parents elected to have my appendix removed. They elected to get my wisdom teeth removed. They elected all sorts of things for me. Maybe I wanted to keep my appendix. Maybe I wanted to keep my wisdom teeth - have I gotten dumber or smarter? Do wisdom teeth even work properly, or have they fallen silent as our society gets collectively more stupider and more entitled? Why is the sky blue?
Those weren't removed shortly after leaving your mother's womb.

Not to mention there are medical justifications for both.

So is it child abuse to remove the placenta, also? That's part of the child's body, along with the umbilical cord.

I just figured it was a sideways attack on ****. Try to make a felony of something that is a tenet of their faith. What's next? Make wearing a yalmukah illegal? How about displaying a menorah?

And decreasing sexual pleasure? What? Men have trouble because they last way too long and women complain that they just bang on for hours, forcing her to have orgasm after orgasm? No, I think the polar opposite is true, actually. It's more like "He lasts five minutes and I'm lucky if I'm even getting warmed up."

Last I checked, my foreskin didn't fall off by itself.

Nobody said you couldn't circumcise. Just not until they can actually make that decision themselves. How much do you want to bet the practice will... fall off... nearly over night if that were the case? Though I suspect many people will outcry over the right to chop off bits of their infant children.

Umm... stamina is still a personal thing. Being cut or not really has little to do with it... except that being cut you may feel much less or even in some cases nothing at all. Making stimulation... difficult if not impossible.

Neither does the umbilical cord. It is tied off then cut off.

Yes, it's a personal thing, but more sensitivity will lead to faster premature "finish". Something that women complain about.

And, as I said, they "chop off" the umbilical cord, no one complains about that. Should we leave it dangling, also, until they are old enough to decide for themselves?

It's just an attack on religion in general and **** in particular, something that's been going on for thousands of years. That way they can claim that they are not anti-semitic.

Of course, abortion is murdering someone who is not even born yet, but I don't see them fighting for their rights. Someone who has their own mind, will, emotions, DNA, and blood type.

And they shriek about circumcision? But it's okay to kill the WHOLE BABY?

The umbilical cord serves absolutely no use after birth, and it would only get in the way if you kept it. The foreskin actually has a purpose. It keeps the glans from drying out and getting callused from rubbing on your pants all day. It increases pleasure due to many, many more nerve endings. You cannot compare the umbilical cord to the foreskin.

How many sperm cells have you wasted in your life?

Every time you fap, you waste the lives of millions of potential babies.

Abortion is performed in a very early stage of development, prior to it developing into a baby.

Are you against Morning After pills too then? Might as well be against contraceptions because those can prevent inception completely. Such a waste of the hundreds of eggs and millions of spermcells!

Are you against women controlling when or by who they get pregnant? Are you in favour of teen mothers and children who can't be guaranteed a good life without fathers? Do you have any idea what the requirements for abortion are? Do you understand that even those pro-choice do not feel that every reason is a good reason for abortion? "I wanna have a boy, not a girl!" for instance is not a good reason.

Are you the one to say a raped woman, including victims of incest, should accept pregnancy and live with the reminder to rape for the rest of her life? Should these moms become social parias as is a good tradition in hypocrite zealot regions because they had sex prior to marriage? Often meaning the mother can't get another relationship because a woman with child is not as attractive as a "prestine" woman?

Hey maybe they should, like is "tradition" in a lot of muslem countries, marry the rapist to avoid shaming the family? So they're now both stuck with a husband they hate and have to get raped and probably beaten by him many more times over! Now there's an alternative solution for you!

Nice ethics you got there. Life and society can suck, sometimes it's better to not bring another life into the world.

Wow.

The placenta and umbilical cord are not part of a child's body. If you didn't cut them off, they would eventually just rot away and fall off by themselves. What a silly argument.

I have to wonder if he even knows what those things are.
