Yea its that time again. Im back in town!!!
Chapter 24: Memory Surge Jack Marslow awoke yet again to bright lights. He quickly closed his eyes. The lights were on and the sun was shining into the window burning his shrunken retinas. This was all to farmilar to him and he was getting quite annoyed with it. He took time to open them as his eyes adjusted to the bright light. He looked outside at the temperate looking forest that he knew was Cyssor. His head throbed with pain and several sticky points were on his chest. He reached down and felt them. Health monitors, pulling each one off of him set off a low ring noise, a few seconds later the door opened and a nurse with a defibrillator rushed in to find the Air Captain sitting on the edge of his bed looking out the window. "How long has it been?" "A week sir." She replied. "Anything new about the war?" "No sir, every front on the planet suddenly died down when the news of the impact was released." "The impact?" "That will be all nurse." A familar voice sounded as a new person walked into the room. It was Major Tills. "Welcome back to the land of the living Jack." "Save it, whats 'the impact'"? He asked gruffly. "The blast on Ceryshen. All three empires claimed it was an asteroid impact." "It was no asteroid, the entire base was wiped out and the energy spike was insane. It looked like a massive orbital strike." "Yea we know. But we dont know what it was." "So the public thinks it was an asteroid and we dont know what it was." "Yea thats right." They conversed on for another ten minutes about the general cease fire around the entire planet. It was very odd for all of the factions to stop fighting just because several hundred people had been supposidly killed by a rock but thats what happened. It would not last long though, the Vanu were already mobleizing to hit Searhus. The Major left and the nurse came back with a huge plate of food. Chicken, corn, peas, and mashed potatoes. Jack gladly dug into the huge meal. He was about half way through with it when the memories of the mission came back to him. The flight to Ceryshen, the drop off, finding the tree, and the ambush. Then Jack remembered Jen. Everything had gone blank after that. He knew what had happened but didnt remember what happened after. He ran out of his room and down to the bases reception room. He asked the girl behind the counter on the wearabouts of Jen, the reply that came back frightened him. "Shes at Gunuku." Yet again memories came flooding back. The dream about the destruction of the center of Cyssor, his own death, the trip to Earth. Suddenly it all seemed very real to him. Last edited by Peacemaker; 2004-01-25 at 03:49 AM. |

Chapter 25: Glorious Burden
The Reaver slowly lifted off the ground and quickly accelerated south east towards the massive Drop Ship Center known as Gunuku. The large island was the scene of serveral battles involving all three empires. The ground below was potmarked with craters, the blackened hulks of tanks, and sun bleached bones alike. But Jack Marslow wasnt looking at the ground. Infact he wasnt even near it. He was up. Way up. The sky was red. Crimson red. In reality it was the charged particles of the star releasing their energy in the upper atmosphere of Auraxis as they slowed down in its magnetic field. But Jack took it as an omen. An omen of the blood shed that would come. The giant Gunuku facility now loomed underneath him and he put the aircraft into a slow downwards spiral. Five minutes later he was on the ground. The facility was buzzing with activity. This was the front and the enemy could attack at any moment. A flight of Mosquitos streaked over his head as he jumped down from the flight pad. It didnt take him long to find the CIC and when he did he found out that he was basicly too late. The main screen was flashing a warning. A huge electrical surge was detected in the upper atomosphere above Gunuku. Three times higher than what he had been just flying at. The surge shot off the scale that ended at 500 Jiga Watts. What ever was making it was obviously using its maximum power. "What the hell are you doing here?" Was the first thing he heard from a familar voice. He turned around and saw it was the young Lt. "I could ask the same thing." "Get out of here while you can Jack. Its about to do it again." "What is?" He asked her. She flipped a switch and the main screen turned from a map of the continent to a picture of the moon. Something was rounding from the dark side of the moon and becoming visible in the sunlight. Jack couldnt believe his eyes. "Thats a.. a." "A Terran Republic Heavy Beam Assult Ship." "But the Terrans only have three and none of them were with us when the worm hole collapsed." "That seems to be true. But now, its here and its getting ready to fire. On the next Lunar orbit it makes it will fire its main gun and destroy this base and everything for one hundred miles around." "We have to stop it! The whole army is here!" "There is nothing we can do! Nothing could stop that thing, only a shield with equal power." Jack sat there. Thinking for a few long seconds. Then his eyes lit up and he brought up the schematics of the base. "How much power is running through this base and the lattice link cables?" "Why do you want to know?" "Just tell me! Is it more or less than the surge?" "More, I think." Jack stood up and walked out the door. He took a left and headed for the basement. There he found a group of electrians huddled around a monitor awaiting their end. "You guys wanna help? String a line from the generator and the back ups to the surface along with aditional lines from the latice cables." They looked at eachother for a long moment stood up and began to do what he had asked. They didnt care what they had to do. They were going to die anyways. Twenty minutes later Jack Marslow was standing ontop of the facility on a hastily biult platform made of plastics and non conductors. All of the wires that had been rigged connected to a metal plate under his right now bare foot. The others to one directly behind it. The entire base watching in wonder at what the Air Captain was doing. Some started asking Jen who had no answer her self. What ever had happened to Jack again had changed him. He now looked as if he knew everything. And frankly that freaked her out a little. Jack raised a hand in the air and twirled it around. THis indicated that the techs should start the electricity flowing in the wires. The genorators hummed and the cords glowed with energy and heat. "Captain!" A speaker phone radioed, "They are firing the cannon!" Jack flipped a switch and his body became enshrouded in a light blue glow. "No way." The snot nosed kid wispered. "Hes going to try and block it with his personal shield." The crowed watched as a bright white beam flowed down from the heavens and carved a hole in the clouds. "This is it!" Jack thought to himself. He dug deep inside of himself for the energy that had saved him twice now. He felt it boil to the surface. The hatred for the oppressors. His freedom. His past. His future. His love. They all became on emotion and once again Jack Marslow's eyes turned bright red. The shield around him glowed intensly and shined down on the crowed. The beam hit Jack square on. He realised at that moment not everything from the dream was the same. Now it was hitting Gunuku squarly not off to the side. He looked up and watched the beam grow red. It was about to discharge. A high pitched ring from the air and Jack steped onto the other metalic pad. Electricity arced across the wires and short circuited through his body. To the onlookers all there was was a bright flash of light and a blue dome over the facility. Nothing could be seen of the Air Captain. Only an echoing scream. Jack Marslow laid on his back for a few seconds. He could feel the electricity still surging through him. The shield had done its job but his body was shot. He couldnt move and all he could see was Terran Drop pods falling from the sky like rain. He lost consiousness a few moments later and awoke not in a hospital but ontop of a mountain. He knew what was going to happen. "Sorry Jack" said the cold steely voice. "You loose." A sudden sharp pain in the back of his head and everything went black. He awoke again with a splitting head ache. He could not remember a thing. He looked around and saw a soldier in a red and black uniform with the callsign tag clearly evident. It read Sentrosi. He stood up and walked over to Jack's bed. "Welcome back Jack!" He said with a smile. "Back?" Back to what?" "Why, back to the Dragon Wolves of course!" |

Chapter 26: Faded Memories
- 1 Week later "Ah shit that is friggen hot!" Heavygain yelped aloud as he bit into his eggs. "Shut up and eat Heavy, we have a long day ahead of us." Sentrosi said from across the table. "What are we doing today anyways?" Asked LunarWarrior. "Same thing we always do Lunar.... Try to take over the world." Came the responce as Zuvarg walked into the room. "Geez, thanks for clarifying that one Zu." "No prob." The Dragon Wolves were sitting down eating their base prepaired meal of Eggs, Hashbrowns, and Bacon in the mess hall on the Terran Republic's sanctuary. The brightly iluminated room held 30 members of the Terran Republics most eliet Platoon. The Dragon Wolves were small for a Terran outfit. Only 40 men strong they were a mear 1/5th the size of a conventional Terran Platoon. Five more of the members were on duty doing some menial task and the other five were in unknown locations. "But really," Asked No Surrender "what are we doing today?" "Command needs us to make a push on Searhus. The entire continent is dominated by the Vanu and we are tasked with droping the Iva Bio Labs Generator." "Sounds easy for us." Sentrosi responded. "Always does." Earlydawn replyed. "Never is." Piped up Thronebeast "Whats the catch?" "Magriders... about 13 of them." Zuvarg answered. "Thirteen... what a lucky number." Black said. "For us or for them?" Heavygain asked as he wafted his tounge. "I dont know.... and we wont till we get there." Sentrosi said inbetween bites. "Anyone seen the newb?" Lunar asked. "Peace? Yea hes up where he always is. In the Hanger. Besides, watch what you say, he could walk in at anytime." BlackDrop said. "The hell is he always doing up there?" Lunar asked. "Working on his bird I would imagine, Lunar. You know thats what a maintanence hangar is for." Heavy smartly shot back. - 4 storys up Jack Marslow sat on his cot at the end of the hangar with a pot of coffee a toaster and a small refrigorator. He too was chowing down on a plate of Eggs, Hashbrowns, and Bacon. "Least the food is good here." He mumbled to him self. He thought about what he just said for a second. A flash of a bar, a small child, and a friendly bar tender. He had forgoten everything. Wgen he awoke 8 days ago he had known only two things. One was his name. It was etched into the genetic barcode on the back of his neck. The man that greated him when he awoke had claimed he was part of the Dragon Wolves and had been in a training accident. The other was that he was a Pilot. He knew this because they had given him an aircraft. A reaver that had obviously just gone through a sand blower, or had come straight from the factory. It had no paint or decals but it was definatly not new. It had multiple patch welds all over its armored skin and many many small but distinct modifications. The last 6 days had been spent here in this hangar inspecting the aircraft, trying to figure out how it worked. It was definatly his, and from his past. It had a few papers scattered in it. Pictures of Earth, pictures of forgoten friends. Paused moments in his past. Thus was the only clues to his past he had. One other particularly meaningless piece of information. Etched into the side of the craft was the word Peacemaker. The second he saw this he remembered something from his past. His callsign, Peacemaker. Now he sat on his cot thinking to him self about the aircraft and how to get it working. Something was wrong with it and he couldnt figure it out. It just simply would not take off. The system would run and all the CPUs would go hot. The heater even blew warm comforting air, but the engines would not provide the lift needed to get off the ground. A tall figure walked into the side door of the hangar as he polished off the last of his eggs. "Hey Peace, hows it going?" Jack looked up to see who had broken his train of thought. "Oh. Hey the Manitou. Need something?" "No not really. I just wanted to see how your doing, we have a mission today." "Yea I know, and I still cant get this shit box to get off the ground." "Thats ok, we have a few spares." "Cool then, I can manage with a normal one." "You know the mission?" "Yea I read the briefing." "Ok then, Peace, I gotta go talk to the rest of the guys. You wanna come along?" "Yea, dont bother me. Lets go." Last edited by Peacemaker; 2004-03-22 at 12:31 AM. |

Chapter 27: The Setup
Jack and the man known as Manitou steped out of the side hangar door into the cool morning air. The standard issue Terran uniform did little to keep Jack warm, nor did it stop any of the 30 knot gusts from chilling him to the bone. A moon was still just peaking over the southern horizion and the stars were begining to loose their twinkle. A half minute later they were at the stair well fighting to shut the door against the gusts of wind. Down the steps they walked. Four stories down into the ground. Even though it was impossible for the building to be attacked it was still a hardened bunker. Only a high intensity Orbital Cannon could destroy the barracks. Mani opened the door and Jack followed in closly behind. Most of the guys were just finishing up their breakfast. Most of them ignored the duo as they stepped into the cafateria. The last man finished up walked their tray over to the washing machine and sat at the center table with the rest of the Platoon. Jack took a seat at the end of the table next to Lunar whome did not seem too pleased to see him. Mani flipped a light switch and the room went dark. Another click and a panel on the wall they were facing slid up revealing a holo screen. Mani's silhouette blocked the right side of the screen and he tapped the air in front of it. The screen fizzled to life and a world map appeared. Battle lines were drawn across all the continents and they showed all of the hotspots and fronts. Mani clicked on the continent of Searhus and it enlarged. It was completly purple indicating it was locked and dominated by the Vanu. Another click and the Iva Bio lab area was enlarged. "Thats our target guys." Throne stated. "Cap it?" Heavygain asked. "No, we are just dropping the genorator. Another squad is droping another base which will cut the Galaxy Center link. With out the Galaxy center the supply abilities for the enemy will cease and make the job much easyer for a push down south." Manitou responded. "Ok then. What are we looking at in terms of enemy equipment?" BlackDrop asked. "Thats the bad part." Strygun spoke up. "Confirmed 13 enemy magriders, 3 skyguards, 2 AMSs, a few deliverers, and a handfull of harrasers." Mani stated with a low tone. "What about enemy air?" Jack spoke up. "We dont know. The Vanu like to keep patrols up around the clock so I would expect a few mossys and reavers. Nothing big though." "Whats the egress?" Jack asked again. "Two galaxies." "Escorts?" "You, Lunar, Heavy, and Strygun." "Where are we dropping?" Black asked. "Well normaly we would drop on the roof but its heavily mined. The plan is to drop at the back door, make our way through the base and cut a hole in the cealing of the room below the genorator. Chuck a few boomers up and run like hell." "Whats below the gen room?" Krewg asked with a gulp. "Main room...." Mani replyed again with a low tone. "Son of a bitch." "This is going to be rough then." Strygun said. Manitou walked away from the screen and flipped the lights back on. The wall replaced itself and the map was gone. He walked over to Jack and Lunar and tossed a com pad at them. It had a picture of the facility from air flying south to north. Clearly visible was the spitfires and motion sensors on the roof and around the back door. The sea was off to the east and to the west a sloped ridge line. Parked on the ridge line were 10 magriders and 2 skyguards. 3 more magriders and a skyguard could be seen inside the courtyard. "Looks like fun Mani..." Lunar said with out looking up, but Mani wasnt there. "Yea it does." Peace said to himself more than anyone. "You just stay out of my way. Dont want to get yourself killed or anything. Im the best CDL has so just let me do what I need to do." With that Lunar stood up and walked away. |
