Higby said via a tweet it wasn't. Who knows if that may change though.

I think this is one of the utopian concepts, so it's not sad by any means.
Also the amount of hype and suspense in the 2 giant discussions is making me want to stop visiting PSU. I tried cooling it up with an interesting post about footholds, but it doesn't help much. |

On the front of "it's SOE's fault, changing lines in a config file isn't wrong..."
I bet the actions were against the EULA for DCUO, at the very least. So, yeah, shitty thing to do. EULA's haven't, of course, gotten much chance to be tested, legally, so it's hard to say whether it was *illegal*... but SOE definitely has grounds to take action against those that took advantage of them if it chooses. Just throwing that out there for those who might think of following in the footsteps (even though this leak is plugged). |

I agree with you. This is disheartening for someone like me who has lived and breathed PlanetSide 2 ever since I first heard of it's existence. Years of hard work and hours spent on the game. Anticipation building for beta and then boom - someone downloads the client and starts ripping shit taking away the great experiences someone could have had opening the game for the first time. I already had these experiences and I'm disappointed that someone else won't get them because they decided to look at ripped content. If there is one thing I feel comfort in about all this it's the fact it did not originate from this community.

LOL It's true, but than again it's on the user to control themselves and if they fail that - who cares (+ it's only limited info to find at this point) |

You'd think someone had died. You realise that people who use Reddit also frequent PSU too? The two communities are not exclusive. Anyway, back to Reddit just thought I'd call you out. |

It all helps to drive the hype. I feel neutral about the client download and the music leak. If I were SOE I would not be upset that there are people out there so interested and passionate about the game that they try notorious things to access the data.
The only problem I forsee is that hacker groups get a head start on breaking the client open. All things considering, when released the game client will be free to download regardless, so everyone with a net connection can have access to this material for free at some point. It would be different if it was pay-to-play. This is a showcase of sorts, and gets people saying the words "Planetside 2" in their heads, and to their friends. I sent at least 3 messages to social media groups as soon as I heard the music tracks were available. How many others did the same? What is that worth to SOE? I ceirtainly would not endorse legal proceedings against the leakers. I feel they did SOE a favour. Its like a marketing department they dont have to pay for. (Edit: It would not surprise me to hear that SOE is responsible for the leak) -RageMasterUK Last edited by RageMasterUK; 2012-06-14 at 10:19 AM. |

NCx, you should be EXTREMELY gracious to Hamma, he works tirelessly on this forum, which is HIS FORUM, and his heart is absolutely in the CENTER of Planetside 2. If you have something constructive to say, then you are free to say it, because he is very mature in how he invites contrary opinions, but flaming Hamma isn't just unwise, it's uncalled for.

SOE should not have had the content that was leak available so easily imo. There's ways to lock down these types of things but they didn't. I'm thinking a little bit of cross-side scripting was going on here.
I do agree that the folks who did figure out the exploits should have reported the issue to SOE and that be the end of it. Where they did wrong was posting the content on the Internet for the world to see. |
