The music is awesome!
Personally, I have to admit, the TR sound best so far. Really like their soundtrack; well done and fitting. And that`s great. After all, they are the get-the-state-off-my-lawn shotgun faction. Reminded me a bit of the Firefly style, but with more Rock in it. Since I'm somewhat of a Hardrock and Bluegrass fan, I will probably be very pleased once real guitar (or even banjo?) gets in. But yeah, the rocky guitar themes are actually a great non-cheesy way to make NC sound the most "human" faction when compared to the state-centric TR and the technocratic VS. Really great. Personally I think they should just pay Hans Zimmer to create the OST. I usually loop this in any game when I'm kicking ass, especially when I play Planetside. It really exemplifies the ideology of the TR for me while I play.

I gave a quick peek despite myself. I have to echo some of the comments on the NC combat music; I hope the final version is a bit better able to get me in a combat mood. I think one of the posters on page 3 or 4 was on the right track when he pegged it as lacking some rhythm guitar to underpin the kind of free-roaming guitar soloing and give a little more consistently uptempo pace to the combat music. I also hope the reliance on the snare rolls gets toned down; the style of the drum work made it feel a little cluttered overall.
If the combat and travel music drifted a little bit towards, say, Social Distortion's Road Zombie, I'd be quite thrilled. I love the *character* of the instrument mix they've chosen, though, and I love how it feels like the sort of thing that a bunch of the guys would throw together after work in their barracks, vs. the very Wagnerian orchestral propagandist military orchestra feel that the TR yields. You make that sound like a bad thing....
Just sounds like mostly classic hard rock (which is cool) to me. Not really anything I'd call "hillbilly". Although, I would like to hear some slide blues in their non-combat music... EDIT: I like the TR one as well. Currently my least favorite is the VS one. Different strokes, eh? Last edited by Ratstomper; 2012-06-14 at 01:50 PM. |
