I honestly didn't like Ender's Game much. I would have rather read a book about the society Ender Wiggin lived in more than him playing games and kicking people in the testicles.
Never read The Hunger Games either. I like post-apocalyptic settings in general and will probably see this at some point. Making kids fight and kill each other seems odd, however, and I do not believe I will enjoy watching very young boys and girls murdering one-another. Either way, intriguing. |

I liked the book and thought they did a good job. There were inconsistencies with the books but overall it stuck to the story pretty well.
I guess I should add that I'm not including the first 15 minutes in this assessment. Jerky camera, camera angles that were way too tight, and it felt like there was no character development that whole time. Last edited by Eighm; 2012-03-24 at 11:41 AM. |

I'd say roughly 4/5 stars (I don't do halves). Marks down for:
- Jerky camera far too much. - A little too much time spent on set up in the beginning - Not enough about other folks in the arena - Katniss apparently washed obsessively because she never appeared dirty. Odd for someone from a COAL MINING TOWN. - Woody Harrelson didn't quite get the character. In general, they did a good job going from the book to the movie but I think the better choice (and riskier) would have been to take the three books and make two movies. I would recommend it, but expect to feel uncomfortable at times.

If you're squeamish about such things, yes. If you have a history of familiarity or exposure to violence, you probably will be fine. I sat through it without any issues, though when the "dog" jumped out at Peeta toward the end, it did catch me off-guard and made me jump.

I had never heard of the hunger games before so I watched this video the other day. I've been told it's an accurate retelling of the book. Seemed easier than reading or watching a long movie.

I haven't read the books yet. If a book is being made into a movie, I tend to want to see the movie first to introduce me to the world and then the book helps fill it out later.
So from a virgin's perspective, I thought the movie was good. Not great, but definitely very good. I have seen Battle Royale so that actually prepared me pretty well for the violence in this one. In fact the Hunger Games seemed a bit tame to me, but that's not really a complaint since it is kids killing kids. The acting was solid all the way around. The music was forgetable. You do miss out on getting to know the other kids in the game, but the movie is already over 2 hours long and it was barely enough time to get invested in the main characters. I say it's worth going to the theaters for if you haven't seen it yet. |

i liked the movie very much but the ending just hit me a bit off guard and the scene were he put the guy in the room with the grape thing's and the door is locked that was messed up guess the big guy did't like his choice. so in the book series is there another book after the hunger games ? because i felt like i was left hanging at the end of the movie like there is more story to tell.
