----------Note--------
I have never written a fanfic for anything but am a big fan or them. I am gonna try and make a pretty cool one . So if my work needs help please do comment. ----------Note-------- I took the character, Mosher from Hayates fanfic about a terran base raid. I turned her into an NC soldier however. Hayate, if you want me to not use this just tell me and I'll remove the name. ----------Note-------- I have a very vague understanding of military ranks. So I probably have them all wrong. Please tell me if I have them mixed up. Lieutenant Mosher got out of the shower and grabbed a towel. As she dryed off she thought, "I wonder what kind of crappy assignment I'll be on today." In fact she always had mundane assignments. Either she was scouting out friendly bases, or teaching new recruits to use the bolt driver in the shooting range. "Yeah like they'll ever use it," she said aloud. Everyone wants a jackhammer, she thought with a faint smile. She then put on her black and grey, snug-fitting jumpsuit and strapped the 4 foot long Bolt Driver to her back. Mosher also grabbed her BANK nano-armor dispensor and stuffed a medical kit into her small backpack. Then slinging her ammo belt which held 20 of the 7-inch long bolts onto her back she left her quarters. By the time she used the teleporter and arrived at recon headquarters there were several mosquito fighters heading into warpgates to group up with their assigned squads. The recon unit is comprised of several very different soldier types. First and foremost in importance are the mosquito pilots. They fly ahead of friendly galaxies or reaver squads to scout enemy bases and provide excellent detail of enemy positions. Then there are the infiltrators, or most commonly called cloakers. Their job is to scout for infantry squads and provide intel about enemy infantry positions. There are also special breeds of cloakers that carry revamped combat knives. These knives are deadly when paired with the strength improving implants that all melee experts receive. Last and usually thought of as the least are the recon snipers. Their job is usually to provide detailed mapping of enemy bases. They also find targets for the large artillery and orbital platform strikes. Rarely do the squad leaders let snipers take shots for fear of alerting enemies to a raid. However in some cases when large scale continent raids take place squad leaders let their snipers rain hell on unsuspecting infantrymen. As Mosher entered the compound she saw Genkon right away wearing his trademark blue and yellow camo suit and bald head. He only wore this in the sanctuary of course otherwise he would be a very easy target for enemy snipers. Genkon was Mosher's usual partner for their boring base mapping missions. He was crazy you could say always riding on top of galaxies and ants trying to pick up chicks... However during combat he was very serious and one of the best snipers around. Mosher would never admit it but she had a small crush for him and enjoyed his company on missions. She never showed it though, always putting him down when he was excited about his kill count or a new date. "Hey Genkon, get me a Coke." "Hey Mosher, no." "Aww common you know you love me too much to deny my wishes." "Meh, you're right, here's your Coke," he said as he tossed her the coke he was hiding. "Good boy." "Would you stop that..." "Get ready, I think we have a mission in Solsar. The terrans just layed out some new defenses along a ridge. And would you go take off that ridiculous suit, it's embarrasing." "Hey nothing wrong with a little empire pride." "Yeah whatever go get your gun." Genkon then headed to the equipment terminal at the back of the room and grabbed his gear. He then went to his locker and placed his precious suit inside. "Ok, lets go." The pair entered their major's office, Major Braston, tired and slouching, grudging what was coming next. "Ok you two we have a new mapping mission for you on Solsar." Mosher audibly groaned and Genkon shifted his weight and rolled his eyes. "Well someone has to do it, no whining." "Yes sir," they both said unenthusiastically. "You will be dropped off by a galaxy carrying a squad to the north of the continent." "Yes sir," Mosher said as she grabbed the mission file from Braston's desk and walked out of the room. Genkon was quick to follow and Braston had to shout his next comment for them to hear. "Do NOT shoot anything unless you are fired upon!" Neither of them answered as the heavy door closed behind them with a loud clunk. Last edited by Smaug; 2003-06-13 at 07:13 AM. |

Mosher walked out of Major Brastons office with newfound rage and Genkon had all that he could handle trying to keep up.
"Why do they always put the best snipers on these stupid mapping missions!" "Hey Mosh, you know its just that SLs don't employ snipers very much." "Yeah well they should. I take out 20 soldier per battle alone! You kill even more than that... It's just... so stupid!" "Hey you know what?" "What..." "I'll tell Braston when we get back that we aren't gonna settle for these crappy missions anymore. I'll, I'll DEMAND that he give us a combat mission!" "Yeah right you know that Braston would pound you." "No, I'm really gonna do it! You just watch." "Fine but if you get killed-" At that moment their galaxy transport arrived. It was painted in a flamboyant pattern that had yellow lightning bolts running down a black sky with blue clouds. "Ah great, its the Titans," said Mosher. Melnor, the titans squad leader, jumped out and ran over to the two snipers. "Heya! How's it going, get your asses in the gal already!" "Melnor, go away, we're getting a different transport," said Mosher faking a communication to headquarters asking "Hey can we get a new transport here, it seems that this one is broken." "Thats no way to talk to the leader of the killinest death squad around!" "Don't you ever stop smiling?" said Genkon. "Nah man its stuck." "hah.... haha...." "Ok thats enough get in already." Then the two got into the galaxy transport reluctantly hoping that the titans wouldn't take notice of their old pals. When they entered the cargo hold the whole squad yelled in unison "HEYA!" "Yeah... hi...." said Genkon And with that short exchange the galaxy loaded with its cargo of 5 infantrymen, 2 maxes, an enforcer, and the two unluckiest snipers in the whole empire, left for the solsar warp gate. As the familiar tingling sensation erupted through their bodies Mosher whispered to Genkon "Just don't talk or move and they wont notice, they're big dumb animals." |

As they galaxy pilot inched his dropship closer to the drop point slowly he called out to the recon team.
"Ok be sure to land on top of the mountain and not on the side or you'll have a bumpy ride to the bottom of this valley." "Yeah just get us over it and we can handle it," said Mosher. Their drop point was on top of the east side of a valley, roughly 700 meters away from the defensive matrix. The east side of the drop point however was very treacherous because there was a very steep fall into yet another valley and there was no getting out of it once you fell in. Melnor called the drop. "Ok 10 meters." "5 meters." "DROP!" Mosher jumped first immediately activating her motion dampeners. A green and blue flourescent gas spewed out of a hose strapped onto her right leg. It provided an excellent cushion and she was unhurt from the 20 meter fall. Next it was Genkon's turn. He didn't like using the dampeners ever since he broke his ankle one time when he didn't activate it early enough. Still a mission was a mission and he jumped, then scrambled oddly to turn on the dampeners, obviously scared. He landed with a loud thud and stumbled falling towards the eastern side of the mountain. Mosher grabbed his arm just in time and yanked him towards the peak falling harmlessly to the grass. "Good save Mosh, thanks," said Genkon "Yeah don't mention it, just be more careful next time." "HEY! great save Mosher," yelled Melnor. "We'll come back to pick you up at 15:00 hours if everything goes alright on our mission." Mosher gave a quick wave off and started setting up her gear as the galaxy transport roared off to the north, and the warp gate to ceryshen. "What time is it Mosh." "09:00." "Ah crap, hope we get some action." "Yeah me too. Well lets start this mapping crap," Mosher said as she mounted her range-finding binoculars to the mini-tripod. They both activated their ocular zoom implants and started surveying. Genkon would point out the objects and Mosher would find the distance and write it down. At the end of the range finding they would relate the distances to their position on the map and mark the turrets and motion sensors. All was going well until they heard a very loud gunshot and ducked behind the hill. "Ahhhh I'm hit!" yelled Genkon "AH SHIT!" said Mosher as she took off his armor looking for the bullet hole. All she found though was a graze mark on Genkon's right hip. It was more than a normal graze mark however, it was a 5 inch long, 1 inch deep gash. This could have only been made by a gun with a very large round. Luckily Genkon wasn't bleeding too badly and Mosher put a gauze bandage on the wound and then wrapped it around his stomach to provide pressure to the gash. "Ahhh be careful," he yelled. "Stop being a baby its just a sratch." "Hey you try getting shot, give me some morphine!" "Here put it in yourself," said Mosher as she handed him a syringe. She then unstrapped the 4-foot long Bolt Driver from her back. Mosher pressed the switch that released the magnetic hold on the middle of the bolt driver. It fell apart in two pieces, hinged at the bottom. She grabbed a 7-inch round from her ammo belt and loaded it into the barrel. Mosher then closed the rifle and turned on the magnetic securing switch. She peeked over the hill, activated her zoom implant, looked through the scope and took aim... |

She undid the small bipod in the front of the rifle and set it on top of the ledge, then looked through the scope scanning the scrub and trees. Mosher saw nothing.
"Damnit! Where did he go!" Just as she was scanning a tree at high zoom she heard a loud gunshot and ducked behind the hill. "Shit! I didn't see the muzzle flash. Give me your helmet Genkon." "What? My helmet, what do you need-" "Just give it to me!" Genkon hastily unstrapped his helmet and threw it to Mosher. She set it so that the top was barely visible, just peeking over the edge. Mosher then ran north along the ledge and peered over. She was roughly 25 meters away from the helmet and saw a figure crawling in a prone position. Mosher rasied her gun, up to the ledge, but not over it, not wanting to give away her secret position. She saw the expected muzzle flash and imediately took aim, activating full zoom. She held her breath, steadying... steadying.. then squeezed the trigger and an immense noise erupted from the gun along with the huge bolt. The recoil threw her back 2 feet and she desperately planted her feet so that she wouldn't fall down into the valley. Mosher ran back over to the empty helmet and Genkons position. The helmet was totally annihilated, laying in 3 large fragments with other small pieces strewed down into the valley. She quickly peered over the edge to confirm her kill. It was a gruesome sight, blood was spilled all over a tree behind the enemy snipers position and the head was unrecognizable. "Yes! Got him!" "Alright Mosh! Great Shot!" said Genkon. Mosher undid Genkon's bandage to check the bleeding. It was totally soaked. "We've gotta get you outta here. I'll call in a medivac Gal." "Yeah I'm not feeling so well," said Genkon as he drifted into unconsciousness. "Genkon, wake up... Hey man wake up!" "This is Lieutenant Mosher in Solsar requesting a medivac pickup! We are at Long. 54 degrees East, Lat. 14 degrees North." "Copy that Lieutenant, a pickup will be there in 4 minutes" "Roger that, hurry." Mosher continued to scan the opposite cliff for enemies, with low zoom. She found nothing and was immensely relieved when the pickup came. The dropship inched towards the peak, extending a metal walkway from the right-side door. Two medics came out as Mosher dragged Genkon towards the walkway. The medics layed down a hard metal stretcher and secured Genkon. Then they all hurried into the ship and it took off with a loud roar. They were safe and Genkon would be fine. He only needed a blood transfusion and he would be back to his crazy self. Mosher nonetheless was still concerned. She had never seen such an excellent sniper. She couldn't see him! The only way she found him was because of the gun flash, and after it she was just shooting where she saw it last. The sniper could have moved and she would have never found him. It was almost as if he were wearing a stealth suit....
