Mouse wheel for changing weapons

When I played beta, scrolling my mouse wheel would change my weapons ala cs/quake3, but in retail scrolling my mouse wheel does nothing, and theres no setting in the in-game options (as far as I know) that let's you enable it. Is there some config file that I don't know about that enables it?

I've got Mouse wheel up set as right back holster and mouse wheel down as left back holster. That's as good as it gets now.

Its not that hard to understand. you move the mouse wheel up or down to switch weapons.

This isnt a good idea, however, since while in those games weapon switching is instant or near instant. In PlanetSide, accidentally moving the wheel (unknowingly) followed by pressing fire to switch will be almost certainly fatal in combat, where the times it takes to switch to the wrong weapon and switch back will definetly screw you. And if it is made obvious that you've switched weapons (like in Counter-Strike, that menu pops up and glows orange), you'll have to avert your concentration while you reselect the proper weapon, which will also be fatal. This will get very annoying, very fast. If the weapon switch animations weren't there, and this game allowed for instant switching, this would be an excellent idea. But because it does, the switching will be more of a hinderance.

I'm just used to using the mouse-wheel. I played MOHAA for a long time and that was the way I changed weapons.

I find using the number buttons above the letter are in the keyboard swaps weapons much faster, although this sometimes makes me hit 3 and out comes the REK.....doh!

There's no way to actually set all the weapons to the mouse wheel, at least none that I know of, so one wouldn't switch to the wrong weapon in less they can't move the wheel in only one direction. This is how my configuration has been since beta, and it's been working perfectly and without problems ever since. Now if I could only figure out how to get my thumb buttons to work....

The best thing to do is make Next weapon: Middle Button Click.

That's what I did in T2 and it worked like a charm. And it only switched your weapons when you wanted to, not on accident like the wheel would do.

Yes, I had mouse wheel set in beta too. I got so fn pissed smacking heal and switching weapons in middle of fight, or accidently pick wrong weapon... just pissed me off so i just wheel up or down. Usually Anti Infantry/close fighting is wheel up and anti armor is wheel back. Used to be grenade back weapon forward when i didnt have engineer/medic. Now i have very few faults and a lot more kills.

I came straight out of 2.5 years of CS, so I have my knife at 3, my jammer nade at 4, my JH at 1, my gauss/rocklet at 2, and my REK at 5. I have Q setup to goto my JH
