I agree the NC shield is ass and only usefull if you know a missle is coming or want to charge past a turret. Not even in the same ballpark of usefullness as lockdown or the rocket boosters
Frankly, the way the capacitor drains so quickly and takes so long to recharge, the shield should work and let you fire at the same time. |

I think that the VS Maxs are the best because of the Jetpack on them. But the only thing bad about the jetpack is if you use all of it on going upwards and then you don't reach where you wanna get and then you start to come down you can get hurt a lot that way so when using a VS Max's jetpack you should save a little for the landing just in case you go to high or you miss where you wanna go and start to come down then a bit before you land just use the remaining jetpack that you have.
I really don't like the NC Maxs cause there shield sucks and the only good one is the Sparrow cause it can take aircrafts out really well. But if you wanna take aircrafts out or any other vehicle I suggest using your empire anti-vehicle weapon. |

God, how could anyone prefer TR maxes to the NC maxes. I have an NC char with all maxes just because they are so effective. The TR maxes all have flaws that the NC just don't have.
Dual Cycler: Don't even get me started. This thing couldn't take down any vehicle except maybe a half dead ANT. And when taking on infantry you usually down 2 if lucky. Due to it's ammo type the DC is extremly weak on far away targets and it's CoF is way to lage to effectively engage anything but close-medium targets. Falcon: Though still not truly effective on vehicle's when engaging them you actually have a change to take it down, I've had many a marauder destroyed by the falcon. Also it's explosive nature allows the falcon to get more "splash" damage, and allowing the rounds to be effective on far away targets, as they will take damage even if you miss them by a little bit . On average the falcon gets me about 5 infantry kills. Pounder: Though some may think the pounder unstoppable, it is really a very flawed MAX, that is good in some circumstances. The pounder IS very effective indoors, while your troops don't run in front of you. But since the pounder had 2 guns, and the reticule is misleading; one will often fire rounds too close to a nearby wall mistakenly killing/damaging/obtaining grief. Also due to the innacuraccy of the Pounder, you will get tons of grief while using it, even if skilled. When I use it i consider myself lucky if i got below 20 grief that run. Also the pounder is completely useless outdoors, as it can easily be surrounded, and infantry can take advantage of it's pathetic fire arc and mediocre RoF while not locked down. Scattercannon: The scattercannon's muliple fire modes make it effective on short, medium, and semi-long ranged targets. It if extremly efficient at taking out infantry indoors and outdoors. Since it's projectile aren't exploding this causes much less grief as well as less damage to the max itsself. Burster: Though the burster is a very well balanced MAX, it is much less effective on infantry (doing 15 armor damage a pop at long range, 9 at short range; this is verified by my clan) and takes more training when taking out aircraft, it is particularly effective because it does not give the pilot a warning, but exploding flak seems to be enough to get him to move before you can finnish him. Undoubtedly the burster is a great max, it is just not as effective as it's rival the sparrow. Sparrow: The sparrow max is the most effective max i have ever used. While using a sparrow i tend to get around 20 aircraft a session, 2-3 land vehicles, and about 10 infantry. This max is extremly well rounded and the best max of any, by far.

I think the scattercannon is just as weak at long range as the pounder. When in the long range mode, its refire rate is ASS slow, and it fires much less shot, doing less damage. The quasar is the best AI max outdoors, with direct line of sight weapons that dont spread (however its CoF is too big for the really long range enemies). Indoors, it is quickly bested by the pounder/scattercannon. Also, it does less damage to armor than the pounder/scattercannon, even on AP mode, which i hate because it uses double the ammo. I think the DC is better than the comet at AV. The DC at least has instant hit projectiles, so they have a chance at hitting the target. The comet has fairly slow, glowing orbs that (while doing impressive damage) have no splash damage (I've tried shooting at the ground near a soldier, doesnt do much damage, if at all), they just have a plasma damage that doesnt even stack, so thats kind of useless. As for AA, i love the burster. When clamped down it becomes a turret of death that can spam choke points like doors, bridges, etc. It has a HUGE blast radius (i can shoot a wall almost 10m away and still take damage), but does suffer from not doing well at point blank. The sparrow is awesome, the only problem being that you must achieve lock before firing, giving your target some time to afterburn his ass out of there. The starfire, with its recent buffs, is much better now. It is now a big AA version of the TR striker, and works pretty well, although its clip size is very tiny. Of all the maxes i think AA are balanced the best.

As NC infiltrator I used both Scattercannons and Sparrows. I really found the scattercannon to be very powerful in 1v1 max duels indoors; you see a pounder, turn on run mode, shield, block a few shots splashing for 50 damage on him, then at point-blank empty scattercannon into him, he takes just as much damage from his guns as you do plus the SC has a ton of armor damage.
Sparrow however is better all-round for 2 certs. I think it may actually do 50 damage to a max per shot! Aircraft fall out of the skies like nothing, saw a reaver fly overhead, fired 5 shots, it boosters behind wall and through trees, all I see its a few orange hit circles then a kill. (Meanwhile I turned to shoot at a lib bombing from the ceiling and its skeeter escorts) Sparrow is to is to maxes what the lasher was to HA, (bad example, but i am speaking in terms of versatility) I could engage any target with a fair chance of coming out on top, reguardless. I could even take on the dreaded 2 lashernoobs in tower spamming blue orbs everywhere and still could come out with 2 kills and 50 hp left I have a pet vanu that I gave all 3 max certs, just to play with. quasar is really not bad and effective at breaking tower stalemates. (Jump on top, wait for sniper to poke head through door, jump them and run though shooting everyone in the back with your beamer... er quasar ) Comet was never really effective for me; just managed to kill a few maxes at best, maybe a couple half-dead infantry. Oh, I amost killed an ams before it steamrolled me as I was 30ft in the air My pet TR started out as a stryk3rn00B but hen I started testing out the maxes and maurader. Pounder is very situational, but man it pisses the hell out of me when 4 are camping the top of a tower. It makes me glad to know how inept the really are just about everywhere else. DC will probably be addressed, it has been my experience that all the AV maxes are really, really, bad, but they will probably be fixed in the same way the AA maxes were gussied up. Burster is ful to use, but is nowhere near as versetile as the sparrow. I recall as an infil running circles around bursters as they failed to kill me, and I found out exactly how bad it is at that. Anyway, excuse the typos, its kinda late here. also excuse the bad grammer, spelling, and anything else I managed to f*ck up. I am tired and really should be writing papers right now... |

My response is None of them are better.
Each side has a good MAX, a decent MAX and a sucky MAX. I don't fear any MAX, and I don't hate going up against any MAX. I don't hate using any of the MAX's I am able to. I simply don't use them. I prefer to be able to use all my weaponry and equpiment at all times. I hardly ever drive either. I get more kills being less visible. I got more kills with AV than I did with the Comet. No one is going to totally agree with your response. That's why this is a forum. These are our opinions, and if you don't agree with them, you say so, and that is your opinion. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about anyone else's opposing opinion. Why should you? |

I voted VS, as that jump ability is cool, you can get to places that thoers cannot, and leap over defensive walls and stright onto a bases roof before anyone can hit you... And the TR, once they get a couple of maxs in your spawn room or command console alcove, thats it!, game over!!!, they plant themselves and just pepper anything that moves. Heres a step by step acount of my encounter with defending TR maxs : 1) My base has been hacked, i run to the console room to punish those responsable!. 2) I open the door to my base's console room. 3) I spot 2 MAXs up ahead 4) oh shit, im dead!!!!. There you go. |
