The only reason I am asking this is because I haven't even bought the game yet and I can't play; but I always hear complaints about the Vanu. I plan on joining the Vanu once I get the game Sat., but I was just wondering why people always say the VS suck or that there aren't enough. I dont know, it could just people faction "bashing" but I was just wondering.

I play vanu and like it. I think the reason you hear vanu suck so often is that their weapons take a bit more skill to use in comparison to other empires. NC are supposed to be most damage per shot, TR are supposed to be about spewing out tons of shots, and VS are supposed to be the more mobile empire (whatever in the hell that means).
I believe all empires are balanced but vanu weapons take a bit more finesse. Take the NC jackhammer vs the Vanu Lasher for instance. The skill with the jackhammer is just get close and hit the fire button and whamo they are dead. The lasher can be just as deadly in the right hands but it takes some skill to learn the right distances and circumstances when to use it. Lasher is more versatile when you are in crowded situations with friendlies around and good for taking out people who think they have cover. You just can't unload your lasher fast because your clip size isn't very large, so you have to chose your shots a bit more than the jackhammer. So what happens is people start out and try vanu and get their ass handed to them off the bat because their weapons aren't as strait forward as other empires. I think the weapons of all empires are fairly balanced except the Vanu handgun, the beamer. They gave the handgun the best armor piercing ability as its strong point... unfortunately; you should never use any handgun against any armored target. It's like saying "Throwing a granite rock at a tank is more effective than a sandstone one." Which may be true, but anyone stupid enough to throw rocks at tanks shouldn't be surprised when they get a shell in their chest. Except for the handgun... it's all good. Just be patient and try to learn the tactics that are best for your weapon.

Wise words Nitsch. I especially like the rock/pistol analogy.
No one plays VS cause we are usually underpopulated, and have the hardest weapons to master. This makes us an underdog. Being the underdog was the reason that put me over the top to choose the VS. If you want it easy join the NC, but if you like a good challenge join us. Either way you'll have a great time. Planetside = teh Shiznittle. |

Ok, if ur on the East Coast the servers that will suit u best are emerald and konried. On emerald, i would say its the biggest server of them all, the vanu are the underdogs. New Conglomerate have the most people. So if you want to be the underdog and not always win then emerald is not the server to be vanu. Konried the other east coast server is a whole new story. The vanu are the dominating empire. I have an NC character. By the time we have one continent the vanu have 4. Being vanu there probably isnt as hard. As an NC there the vanu often zerg and defeat us. Emerald is a much mroe enjoyable server on the other hand, no matter what empire. There are more people, bigger battles, and more battles. On konried there is often only one huge zerg vs zerg battle going on. On emerald there is always atleast one, and on a friday or saturday night 3 continents will have major fighting on them. Try out all the empires and pick which u like best. NC and TR will have a much easier time learning to play the game. While vanu it is a bit harder, nevertheless its still fun. And i actually consider the lasher my favorite weapon. If you are good with the lasher then you can beat anyone. Of course it takes lots of practice and skill.

I play Vanu, and I like them. Let me put it this way, I can run around with a Lasher, and a Lancer, Kick ass, pick up Jackhammers and Mini Chain guns, and not have to worry about grabbing their ammo, as it's common pool, and kick ass with JH and MCG's. I can pick up Strikers and it's ammo, and blow away vehicles with ease, as I am already used to leading the shots, and keeping a lock-on. And if I get tired of Grunting, I can grab a Starfire or Quasar and do even better. Then I can go to another server and play a diffferent empire and do just as good there too. If you can do good with a Lasher, you can do good with any weapon.
Incidently, if you want a good weapon to snipe with at medium range (100meters) the Supressor kicks ass. Standing still, or croushing it has a tight COF and 0 recoil. So if your target isn' moving or shooting at you, take our your Supressor, Aim, and pull the trigger and hold it. Try it out in VR, if you don't believe me. It's only moving that the Supressor COF sucks. |

I love VS and generally agree with what has been said here.
The VS weapons tend to take a bit more skill to use than other empire-specific weapons. With the lasher, you have to lead the shots to be effective, even in relatively close quarters. The lancer is tough to aim as well, with the charge delay before each shot and travel time (very short travel time granted, but it is *not* an instant hit weapon, so you do have to lead the target) it's harder to use than the lock-on striker, or flyable pheonix. The rail gun on the magrider is arguably easier to use, considering it has no firing arc, but that's a matter of perspective. It may be easier to aim, but it has a smaller splash radius, and in some cases, an arc is a good thing to have. The jumping MAXes are great too. One of the funnest MAX special abilities, if not most useful. With the new patch, the MAXes are also something to be feared, which is always nice . The Thresher and Magrider are some of the funnest vehicles to drive as well, strafing is great. Plus the Magrider is the only tank where the driver gets a gun (and other than the Liberator, the only multi-passenger vehicle with a driver's gun). The gun is tough to use, but at least you get to fire something while you drive . |
