Call me a noob if you must, but I haven't seen anything mentioned about "Real Time Voice Comm" being a part of the game. So I was wondering what everyones feelings about it were.
Personally, I think Voice Comm has become as necassary as a mouse when playing any squad based FPS game. The ability to communicate with other players in the game gives you a deffinate advantage over a group of players that is not communicating. Voice comm has become such an integral part of my gaming experience that before I've even decided what game I am going to play I log on to TeamSpeak and see what my friends are all playing. So I'm wondering. Will Planetside try to incorperate Real Time Voice Comm into the game itself? If so would you prefer that Sony tried to program their own voice comm program, or are you happy with what we have to choose from now (Roger Wilco, TeamSpeak, GameVoice)? If it does not have a built in chat do you think Sony should try and bundle something like TeamSpeak with the game? Now on to some of the possibilitys if Sony programmed there own..... How about a sort of "Radio" that only worked if you were with in a certian distance of each other? Or a Distress signal that you could set so that nearby players might come to your aid? How about a global announcement to your empire if one of your facilites is under siege, and needs renforcements? |

Great post Unreg, I was wondering the same thing
Voice communication is a must, i never really fooled around with teamspeak or roger wilco until a few months ago but there is definitely a large difference from text to voice. I really hope that it will be incorporated some how, but i sorta want it to be dependent upon TS or RW that way Sony has one less thing to worry about and won't need to support on their servers. I also think there should be different channels for different teams... like Clan Draconus Lupus should have a seperate channel for the defense from the offense if need be...but still be able to communicate between both of them. Key binds i suppose eMa |

Yeah, there's no integrated voicecomm. They'll have preset macros and gestures, but not mic-usage.
They would out and say "WE SUPPORT VOICE COM APPS" but then they'd have to offer technical support if some idiot cant get RW/BC/TS2 working on his own. The unofficial word is that they encourage you to use a 3rd party prog

I am ok with that.
I'd much rather they focused on game play issues, then try and re-invent the wheel in the form of a home grown Voice Comm program. The only game I can think of that has tried to implement voice comm is Tribes 2, but it never worked as well as 3rd party applications so no one used it. I'd hate for the Dev team to have to push back the release date to add a feature we don't really need. I do hope that durring Beta, they try to test the game with some of the diffrent Voice Comm apps running in the background, so if there are issues with running them they can be addressed, or Sony could recomend a "Best of Breed" that worked well with PlanetSide. |

It looks like I'm going to have to acquaint myself with Teamspeak.
Communication is a good key to come out on top in FPS titles, there is little time to type out a quick response mid fury of fire when a perfectly good plan gets driven into the ground.

Its gonna be left to the playerbase to host their own voice servers, which kinda makes sense. In other MMORPGS blaa blaa you had a "guild" channel, where everyone in your "clan" or "outfit" could chat to each other. Just use TS or RW or X to serve that purpose, be it an enhanced form of communication (chat sucks). I find running my voice program on a seperate machine makes it a lot more useful/fun experience.
