Chapter 1: Sticks and stones can break my bones...
-NC Sanctuary- -NC City, 12:00 AM, December 20- ObnoxiousFrog had had it. During the early months of the war, the New Dawn outfit promised a lot. They planned to strike well and strike hard. Sure enough, initial organization became useless as time dragged on. The outfit became a group of Zergers. He left a while ago. His job in the military was much less than he expected. NC weapons were crude. The facilties werent as maintained as Terran ones. There was less glory, less morale, and more generals telling people to sacrifice entire continents to save a home one. He had a few friends, but no real longtime buddies. Most had stayed loyal to the Terran Republic. Hamma, Sputty, Incompetent...Jesus, there were so many. If only to meet them just for a little, no weapons fire... The NC rhetoric on the Terran Republic was extremist at worst, a little exaggurative at best. He was happier over there, back in the old days. He didn't break the law, and the colonial government didn't seem that bad... He remained loyal to the blue and gold mostly because of circumstance. He refused to admit that he wanted to see his friends. He reminded himself that he was not going to just walk in, that he would face severe penalties. But overall, he was still NC- though just by a hair. He saluted the flag, he fought, he died, he respawned, and bled again.

Chapter 2: ...but words can always hurt me
"We need a fall-guy." Criminal mob bosses sat at a table. They were known as the mafia. They weren't loyal to the Terrans or Vanu, they just wanted to get rich off of whoever was in power. Apart from drugs, murders, and other crimes, they had influence. Many public businesses actually supported the mafia, including many casinos. Many crooked politicans would sell out to them if it helped them get re-elected. Their current plan was ambitious, to say the least. They were going to attempt a murder of a local police boss. Due to conenctions, his matrixing information, necessary for respawning, was to mysteriously disappear. He would be shot and that was the end of him, for good. "Right, Vinnie. We probably need someone who just happens to be there. The goon happens to be near. Rico slips the DNA canister into his bag, boom. Rico has gloves, so will this guy. Then someone rats him out, calling the cops, tells them that they saw a DNA canister removed, which IS a felony. If it's a soldier, that's treason and liable for execution." "I like it, I like it. We'll do that." said one of the bosses, busy smoking a cigar.

Chapter 3: Confession
ObFrog, the next day after his 18 hours of duty, stopped at the bar before going to his apartment. He met AztecWarrior, one of the few old-time friends he had. Aztec was busy on one of his special boxes of cigarettes. "Hey. That's bad for you." he said to Aztec. "ObnoxiousFrog! It's been a while!" "Yeah. Can you accept confessions, you Catholic Mexi-Nazi?" Aztec laughed. "Well, I'm not a preist, but I'll have no problem helping you out." "Fine." They went to a remote corner of the bar. "So, what's the problem?" "Well...it's a bit of a...a loyalty problem." "I've had those in the past. It's not unusual. It's healthy to ask yourself why you fight.." "It's not that. I feel like...it was actually better in the old days, you know? I mean, the NC is kinda pushing it with their propaganda. But this army sucks. The troops are all green and form little cliques and push me out. I'm an outsider in my own country." "Keep going." "None of the guys I really knew jumped over to the NC. Remember Hamma?" "Jesus. I can't imagine him without me shooting at him." "Him and all the old guys. We'll never freaking see them again! The way I see it, the war won't be over in five, ten, not even fifty years." "So? What's your point?" "I feel like the only reason I fight for this empire is because I'm in it. I know this could go under treason, so can you please not share the following, but...I was happier back then." Aztec sat and thought. "Don't worry about it. You can't go back to the old days. But don't you remember the surveilance, the oppression? Remember back in college when Searo nearly got executed?" "I guess you're right." "Just beacuse you didn't see it doesn't mean that it wasn't bad." "Never thought of it that way....wow. Thanks! Hail!" ObFrog seemed invigorated, filled with spirit. And he was.

Chapter 4: When Worlds Collide
He walked home to his apartment. He felt a lot better. "Just because you didn't see it..." really cured him. Doctor Rico Hernandez stealthily removed the matrixing info of the police chief. He put it in his coat and walked away calmly, as if nothing had happened. He had on army gloves, so the exact same fibers would be left behind on the bottle. The bottle was cylindrical, about six inches long, three inches wide, and it glowed cyan. Inside was all the person's genetic information necessary for a respawn. They could be stored in bases, towers, AMSes, anywhere. He needed a target. The shooting was scheduled to happen in...he checked his watch. Four minutes. He walked out of the Respawn Control Room and outside. Near the Smoked Vanu bar was a soldier, walking out. He had the gloves on. It was perfect. He walked at a right angle to him. As he passed near, he slipped the bottle into his inventory backpack. ObnoxiousFrog never noticed a thing.

Chapter 5: "Shots ring out in the Memphis sky"
There was a parade. After putting down a Communist vs Fascist riot, what else could you give to reward someone? The District Chief was on a float. The float was made to resemble a Harasser painted yellow and blue. On top was the chief, next to him his wife. Police officers covered it, some throwing out candy to children. It was late in the afternoon. The sun was beginning to set. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. The sniper selected a vantage point that was in front of the setting sun. The muzzle flash would be obscured by the brightness of the solar disk. Weapons in the sanctuary are supposed to have weapon locks. However, criminals can't be expected to buy guns legally. Their guns were black market specials. The mafia member got the chief in his sights and pressed the trigger. There was a boom, and a Bolt Driver shot flew out. It hit the intented target's head. He was dead before medical support even got to him. And most curiously, he didn't respawn.

Chapter 6: Guilty by Suspicion
ObFrog got home and dropped his bag. He put on his PJs, as he wasn't on normal daylight shifts. He got up very early in the morning, around two, so he slept at sundown, which was about 11:00 PM in that part of Auraxis. He turned on AGN for the hell of it. Sure enough, the shooting was on AGN, and he hadn't respawned. "The task will be relatively easy for police. Each canister is tracked. All they have to do is follow it and it will lead to the thief, or at least the wreckage of the canister. A flesh DNA retrieval can be attempted, but it is unreliable and may not lead to a correct respawn." Someone had the canister. It wasn't him. He watched as they tracked the police cars speeding down the street. "We've just recieved word that the canister is intact, and that they do have a signal. They are turning on to 39th street.." Damn, that's my street. "They are stopping at Buena Vista Apartments..." Oh SNAP! That's this complex! "They are entering the building...we have been informed that it is on the fifth floor..." Oh. Fucking. Snap. That's this floor. Could someone have slipped me it? That would suck majorly. Let me go check. He opened up his inventory. Sure enough, it was there. "SHIT! WHAT THE HELL?" He heard three quick beeps, just like after a REK unlocks a lock. The door burst open and about 20 policemen in Reinforced armor with Sweepers aimed at him. He was holding the canister when they surrounded him. "You're under arrest."

Chapter 7: Framed!
-The next day, military tribunal- "I was framed! I never removed the canister!" He was pleading before a judciary comittee of five. Witnesses were in the room. "Prove it, soldier." "First of all, I never entered the building..." "That is a moot point. The tracker was on only after it was stolen. However, you can prove that you weren't there." "I was in the Smoking Vanu bar. I was seen. I call AztecWarrior to the stand." He rose. "Was he in the bar?" asked the judge. "Yes, he was." he replied. "What did he say?" "He needed some counseling. He was having a personal problem, and I was more than happy to give him advice, which he accepted." "I OBJECT!" screamed someone in the audience. It was the thief himself, who had been selected as an advisory jury. "ObnoxiousFrog was actually telling AztecWarrior how he planned to leave the NC!" "I object to that." "ORDER!" screamed the presiding officer, hitting his hammer on the block. "What was he talking about?" Aztec responded. "He was questioning exactly why he was fighting. I have done it and I belive that every soldier must do it to not be a drone." At the end, he decided that I was right and he was filled with patriotism. "I OBJECT! He...." The trial lasted a while.

Chapter 8: No eye contact
-------------------------- It is rumored that a jury, after making its decision, will never look at the accused man. -------------------------- The trial was long and hard. The next day, the tribunal was about to end. "Sargeant-at-Arms, please read the protocol for the decision of the tribunal." asked the head judge. "The five officer-judges will enter a seperate room. They will discuss the evidence. Once this is done to their satisfaction, with no time limit, the four minor judges will vote. In case of a tie, the head judge will vote. This procedure is not limited by time and is required to be explained to the other people in this tribunal." And so they left. Five officers, brandishing shin pads and other high Command Rank additions, entered their room. Thirty minutes later, they emerged. None of them looked at ObFrog. "The tribunal has found ObnoxiousFrog guilty as charged. The judges have decided this unanimously. The punishment will be execution. The prisoner will be..." ObFrog jumped and ran. He activated Surge and ran past the guards. He got to the nearest vehicle terminal, ordered up an Enforcer, and hit the gas pedal. He didn't have time to wait around for a HART.

Chapter 9: A Brave New World
He didn't hear any sirens. He took a quick look inside the HART building. Fifteen seconds to landing. The doors folded and the smoking HART came in to land. ObFrog got out of the Enforcer when the HART doors opened. The doors to a new world. He ran inside and got onboard. He got inside a pod and thought as the HART lifted off. It's all useless. I'm guilty by suspicion. Aztec's a douche. They are all wrong, I am right. That sounds bad, but it's true. This empire sucks. A bunch of anarchists, extremists, Nazis, Commies, and idiots. I hate them all. Why did I get over here? The Mother Republic is where I should have been. I was a fool. Now, it will be fixed. I'm going to land as close as possible to TR territory, a home continent if possible. I get there and surrender. If I get shot, they've removed my matrixing info, it's over. It is time to enter a new world. The selection map came up. By chance, Ceryshen was under Vanu attack, and it wasn't locked. He nearly cried with joy as he plugged in to land near the gate. The HART let him loose. There was a clank as the doors opened, and the pod's rockets fired. It got very hot inside. He fell through the atmosphere and landed exactly on the road. A Prowler tank noticed the Drop Pod and went towards it. ObFrog lifted up his hands as it exited the gate. "I'm re-joining the TR! Don't shoot!"

Conclusion: The howl of the wolves
-Three days later- There were no penalties for coming back. Surprisingly, they opened their arms. The flow of defectors was growing thin. They were happy to have him back. He knew where to go. Private ObnoxiousFrog got out of his apartment and walked straight to Manitou's house. "ObFrog! You're back, soldier!" "Applying for CDL, sir!"

This is based on a true story.
Last week, I met ObFrog on Cyssor. Last weekend he was assaulting a tower I was in along with Incompetent, as a Terran, in CDL. I didn't get either of them because the bastards were Mini-Chaingun rushing. But rest assured, the war is not over.
