Worst leveling system ever. Absolutely zero skill based.
A level 50 mage who has never picked up anything heavier than a spoon can get the world's weakest weapon (say, a rusty broken moldy mace) and kick the fucking shit out of a level 10 warrior using a sword he has used all 10 levels. A dozen monkeys could have came up with a better system. |

And yes, you could staff a low level class to death, with a gap of 40 levels anything level 50 could beat a level 10 player, everything is scaled downwards as a lower level player ( or mob ) attacks a higher level player, Giving a higher level player an advantage, but this only kicks in in extream situations of 20-40 level gap difference. In short, a player with hundereds more health points, str, dex, any stat will be a lower level player if it is a gaint level gap. EDIT: Err Im not disagreeing with you on the leveling system Tek, just explaining why its like it is. The game was based off Player Vrs Player, and not Player Vrs Monster, EQ is what you want if you want PvE (player vrs monster) Last edited by r3d; 2004-06-29 at 10:32 PM. |

The game is divided into 3 realms, or teams, you get levels and go PvP according to zones that are your level. I guess if you're retaded you can go run out with a bunch of 50's and die a ton. |

Look at the hitpoints of a level 1 compared to a level 50. That's retarded. Why do your hitpoints increase? Your SKILL increases. When a soldier trains in the military he gets SKILL, he doesn't magically become able to take 50x more bullets than he would as a private. |

It makes sence anyways, why should a level one player have the same hitpoints as a level 50 player? They dident do shit. Note: PS isent a MMORPG, so you cant compare it to DAOC with the hitpoints issue :P |

EQ>DAoC
btw, Hitpoints do not equal health. The theory being: at lvl50 one would be better defending, more acustomed to thier armor, better practiced, perhaps stronger, etc. than a lvl10. Using the 5:1 ratio, wouldn't someone who has been training for 5 years with a given skill be able to beat the tar out of someone who has only trained 1 year with the same skill? I know if I practiced for 5 days wearing full plate armor in RL, I could probably take more hits than if I was wearing 80lbs of shit the first day. I dunno, thats just how I see it. It's not a bad system. |

That system WORKS, and it works WELL. Combat is based on SKILL and EQUIPMENT. You can't go up to some huge fuking dragon and have it bite you 500 times before you die. No, if it bites you once or twice your dead. You avoid death by using team tactics, dodge skills, and killing it before it kills you. Just because YOU have not seen a skill based system doesn't mean they aren't out there. They are, and more and more developers are moving that way and avoiding the "Well, i guess when you level your HP increases. We can't explain why.. maybe.. umm.. your charachter gets bigger... makes more blood... umm..". I can compare the army if i want. If you dont like it, ill take it back to Medieval times. Answer me this: If you took a sword and swung it as hard as you could at the face of a peasent and the face of a hero, and hit both, which would survive? The answer: neither. The hero has the SAME health as the peasent. However, give that hero his sword and his skills, and he'll kick your ass. You'll never touch him. THAT'S how a MMORPG system should be. Not only does it make sence, but it allows the developers to focus on balance of skill and equipment, instead of creating "zones" where only certain levels can go to. |
