my thoughts on infils...

darklight ruins the infil suit for me, i've figured, as a fan of both splinter cell: pandora tommorow and planetsidee, that turning the DL implant into a 'motion sensor' would help, therefore, if an infil decides to run while somebody is using the implant they will be caught

if the bases are to be modified then they oghaut to have ventillation shafts, which only infils have access to, and other things like fences which can be climbed.

also infils ought to be able to take enemies hostage, holding them in a stranglehold, this works thanks to the use of grief.

a special tool could be used to quickly kill an enemy from behind (fibre wire), a tool for stealing the contents of an enemy's inventory (useful if you can reach an enemy but dont want cause a big fuss, you can steal medipacks or grenades from enemies, or just destroy them to make him less effective in combat... ), a tool to bug an enemy so you can listen in to his conversations, to find out details on the enemies plans, however it is encrypted so you can only find out what he was saying in a base of your own, where you can solve the encryption, and a port which allows you to insert other feature, like cameras, a taser, dispensable zip lines or even a wire which allows you to climb up and down walls

alot of this is taken from the multiplayer mode in SC:PT, and this part of planetside should play just like that, but on a bigger scale...

Can u say 'copyright infringement' and 'mass lawsuit'.

That is a retarded idea, you are just taking everything from splinter cell and applying it to Planetside. Just go play splinter cell.

All the ideas aren't bad. Stealing inventory is actually an amusing thought, although it would be tough to implement. I just picture a sniper reloading, taking another shot, going to reload and saying "Weird, I know I had more bullets" right before he hears the hum of the knife. Suddenly he realizes he's down to a sniper rifle with no bullets and he jumps up with his REK to give the infil cancer right before he dies.

Those are good ideas but we are not in an inflitration game such Splinter Cell... This is PlanetSide, an MMOFPS, where they are huge battles... Maybe new weapons should be added to the game which can only be used by cloakers but the tools stuff , I don't its a good idea.

well, i think the game with cloakers is FINE the way it is. I have a number of alts with cloaking, and i make plenty of kills just using amp or MAG-scatter pistol. Just keep working on making those kill on targets like snipers or someone using AV.

That's funny, I didn't realize Pandora Tomarrow had a copyright on motion sensor technology.

Also, fiber wire would be cool. Switches you to third person mode as you strangle them, but neither of you can fight against anyone else. So you better make sure the coast is clear when you move in for the kill. You could put it in a pistol slot OR choose to replace your knife with it.

A multipurpose AT-inspired zipline would be cool, you could use it to ascend to vantage points, or rapel down to ground floor.

Bugs for listening to enemies would be good. See my idea on Planetside-Idealab.com forums for a moddable supressor would be good, one of the attachments I suggested was a directional microphone. Also, see what Hayoo suggested for the Comtech cert, allowing you to listen in on enemy commander communications if not encrypted or scrambled.

I also liked the idea of a terminal somewhere in the catacombs of the base (cargo storage areas), that an advanced hacker could hack into, and have the option of either:

A- Disabling enemy broadcasts in their SOI for however long it takes them to resecure, plus three minutes

OR

B- Enable your own broadcasts in the SOI for however long it takes for them to get there and rehack it plus three minutes.

Good DArklight idea, see my post on the Idealab forums about two variations on DArklight, Darklight "Red" and darklight "blue".

Atlas, stop being an idiot. Games take "inspiration" from each other all the time. If you're going to oppose his idea, give reasons for the idea itself, not because it took inspiration from another game. A lot in PS could be borrowed from other games. Case in point: BFRs.

I like some of these ideas, but they'd take a massive amount of work. I really doubt they're at all within the realm of possibility, especially for something as niche as infiltrators.

Its true. A lot of work for the devs when they're already behind on their updates. This one will get pushed to the back of the list and forgotten for a year.

I like how I've had to ignore half the posts in this thread because theyre OF folks.

And no, Im sorry, but a lot of those ideas are "Way in the outfield" stupid. Like, beyond Comprehension.

No, we will not make it easier to be a cloaker. Ventilation shafts = No. Hostage-taking = No. Too much work, for too little payoff. By the time youve grabbed an enemy, one has run around the base, and shot you in the back 15 times. Or one accidentially stumbles in, and fills you full of lead. Or, they have very low grief, kill the guy, and you.

Fiber wire? Please. Thats why you have a knife.

Yeah. A lot of these ideas sound like theyve come from someone who hasnt played enough of the game.

Either the devs dont have enough room to make the animation for that, and some of the other stuff would = lag

But yea i know how u feel. I play splinter cell pandora tommorrow online, on xbox live, if you do too whats ur gamertag?

bAH! Furg u! Sorry, i was a little heated at the time of my reply.. and half asleep.

Again, sorry.

Anyways, im don't think these ideas are feasible, they would require ppl to play the game like it matters if you die, as well as mass level changes. Fiber wire? I didn't really like using it in SC, and i don't think it really fits in the game anyways.

Yet again, sorry.

*edit* i DO like the rapel idea, some sort of grappling hook, altho it doesn't fit well in the game. I just couldn't say no to it, even tho it makes no sense in the game. (too useful)

I'm all for letting infiltrators cling and scale any surface, physics and art willing. I think that would make them quite a bit flexible, as far as entry points and overwatch vantages go.

Defenders couldn't just guard the ground floor entrances and send people up to kill droppers. They'd have to be a great deal more vigiliant.

The more I think about replacing Darklight with Motion Sensor, the more I like it. Highlights movement with a red box. Cloakers could crouchwalk around, and if they're careful, and didn't fire any weapons, could get around without being detected.

Spee, if you seriously think cloaking, as it is, is easy, you need more playtime with them. They're not the Darklight afflicted practice targets that everyone makes them out to be, imo, but they're certainly not east considering they can't really do anything as well as a heavy (REXO) grunt could. That's why I think they need more flexibility. Give them the options of Sabotage, Intelligence Gathering, and Assassination, and you have a multipurpose squad member.

Some of these ideas would give them a great deal more utility on the battlefield.

And forgive me if I'm wrong, but Splinter Cell dosen't *have* fiber wire. You're gotta do the chokehold / broken neck thing.

Fiber wire, no.

Hostage taking, no.

Ventilation shafts? Maybe yes, but make them accessible to all, not just cloakers. Then again though, it might give the assaulters an unfair advantage. Generally, an assaulting force needs a 2:1 ratio against the enemy (usually more in Planetside), ventilation shafts could lower that to 1:1 or even lower. But I like the idea. Reminds me of Counter Strike cs_assault.

Being able to scale stuff would be neat, but I'm unsure if the Planetside engine would allow for that. I don't know. It's one of those iffy things that I'm not too hot about.

I don't think infiltrators need buffs, I think the things used to find them (DarkLight) need nerfs.
