Ok, are there two types of ammo you order from a terminal and carry around? If you don't have any AP packed, are you not allowed to switch modes? Of course this doesn't apply to Vanu. Also, say you have 20 rounds of normal ammo left. You switch to AP. Does the extra 20 go into inventory? Does it disappear?

First off, some weapons have AP ammo available, while others don't. An example would be the fletchette rifle, which uses regular shells, and AP shells. When you switch ammo types, say from regular to AP, the regular ammo is taken out of your gun, added to the regular ammo you are carrying, and AP ammo is taken from your inventory, and put inside your gun. If you are not carrying AP ammo, then it is impossible to switch to an ammo type that you do not have. Hope this helps.

Along these same lines:
Is AP ammo just a hybrid of armor-piercing and anti-vehicle, or is there a seperate kind for AV? I thought that AP does straight health damage to an armored infantry target and then it's the only kind that can damage vehicles, but the more that I think about it...the less sense that makes. Anyone have an info/ideas on that?

Doesn't AP stand for Armor piercing?
From what I understand Armor piercing ammo goes through armor well, but doesn't do much damage to the flesh. (something about blow through. The bullet has enough power to go through the armor, but it simply passes through the body, making hitting a vital organ less likely. Thus standard would be best against flesh, or people with little armor. (When it hits flesh it tends to change shape and move through the body randomly. Thus more likely to hit a vital organ. But when it hits body armor, it just loses all of it's velocity and stops.) Of course AP could mean Anti-Personel. In which case just switch it. Read Black Hawk Down. There is a lot of balistic info in that book. Of course I could be completely off.

I severely doubt that AP ammo does straight health damage through any armor, or what would be the point of having regular ammo? Everyone would *basically* have 100 health. No, AP rounds will simply do more damage to armor, and less to health. That way, it would suck, comparitively, at fighting against Sandard and Agile armor because they have more health, and it would be average towards Reinforced armor, and it would do far better against MAX armor. This is how I hope it works anyway.
[edit] Again! I'm getting really good at simulposting.

Wrong Duritz. AP ammo would do less damage to ammor, because less of its total damage would be absorbed by the armor. However, it does less total damage over-all, so unless you're fighting a Rienforced or MAX it would be better to use normal rounds.
AP when used in these forums refers to armor-pierceing. Anti-personel is refered to as anti-infantry, or AI.

While normal eats through INF armor faster, AP hits the armor for probably 50-70% of total damage, and then does some health damage. Normal does jack diddly against vehicles, and bounces off MAXes. AP is good against MAX and Tanks. It's probably easier to go through 100-150 armor and then start doing health damage, instead of doing 75 armor damage and 25 health.

No, the point of AP rounds is that they do more health-damage against armor wearing oponents than normal rounds by partialy ignoreing the armor. This is why it is armor-pierceing, and not armor destroying. The idea is to kill the MAX without haveing to take down 650(at least) armor first. Armor doesn't keep a soldier fighting, health does.

2.)If that is true then WTF is the point of standard weapons? Hell, I'd just use AP cause it cuts through armor. Same time to take out someone in Standard armor as in a MAX. I mean, please, you could just skip the first 100-650+ points of a unit. No way! It's a game, you are gonna have to go through every inch of that armor (damage wise) to kill it.
