Well, I would say that he has a Custom status that just says Battlefield 2, but then it wouldn't have the little X logo... so I have no idea.

If you rename any file to BF2.exe, tell xfire to scan for new games, and launch said file, you'll show up as playing Battlefield 2.

I'm assuming you found this out, since now YOU'RE shown as playing Battlefield 2.

EDIT: This works for all games. For example, if I wanted to 'hack' my Xfire profile to make it look like I play Planetside all the time, I'd just name a file planetside.exe, tell Xfire to search, and choose the fake planetside.exe instead of the real game.
