Well, this is my last semester in college and of course I have no money. I just got a $1200 bill from my web developer, and am in desperate need of a job. In a place where it is impossible to find a job after the holidays, I managed to get one at the campus libraries special collections. This is a collection of a very old and rare books. I basically get paid to read about history and process new books into the collection.

Yeah, I work on-campus as well. I work for the Academic Computing Labs as a help-desk guy. Basically, I sit at a desk overlooking a giant computer lab, getting paid to do my homework and IM people until one of the printers runs out of paper. I refill it and go back to getting paid to do my homework.

So today I started working on the collection and damn. I was trying to read through this book which is extremely fire-damaged. Only about 80***37; of the book is left so not all the words are there.
It is really neat to be handling these documents that are well over 160 years old. Some of the documents date back to 1753. I think that is as far as the documents go. I am really excited about this job. |

Yeah, the special collection is a really cool place. Our University has a really big collection with all kinds of history. It is also one of the premier places for certain topics, including Irish genealogy, Baptist church history, and many other collections. It's really cool.
