Can you follow orders?

Simple question right? You're a part of a squad/platoon/group and the sarge is barking orders over Gamevoice (or whatever).

You've joined the group...you're supposed to work as a team.

Can you follow orders without question, even if it's sure death? or maybe you simply don't agree or have your own adjenda in mind?

This inevitably comes up in any team combat game. You get a team rolling and ready to go....everyone is gung ho, ready to hit their positions and wait for orders........yet you have one (or more) loose cannons that want to snipe from that hill over there (drawing fire right to where you want to gather for the attack or your landing zone) or they want to tank rush to the center of the base while everyone else is getting into position for a coodinated "sneak" attack.

So, my question is...will/should a group leader have the option to...oh, I dunno....shoot the offender in the base of the skull for the sake of the team? (or maybe at least have them removed from the mission).

Griefing takes many forms. Some are purposful peckerheads with a fondness for getting people pissed off. Others are just too untrained/stupid to work in a group or recognize that being part of a team means acting AS a team....so, with the last group in mind....

Can you follow orders? What recourse does a team have for someone who doesnt or wont?

(mostly just want to hear ideas concerning uncooperative/purposefully disruptive team members and what you'll do/what you did)

"Colonel, did you order the code red???"
"Yer damn right I did!"

if there in your squad, and messing up the attack on purpose, the squad could kill them and not get grief points since he's in our squad.. atleast from what I understood..

You can just simply kick the person out of your outfit

Or I can run them over in my mosquito :o

There are no grief points for killing your team members, so why not run them down

No grief points. You can either kill him or kick him out of the squad.

As for follwoing orders i would need one of 2 things to obey blindly:

1)Know the squad members well. (i.e. played with them before and know they play good)

and/or

2)Know the reasoning between orders.

I would have no problem sacrificing myself to further help the team. Example going 1 on 1 with a whole enemy squad and draw them out while my team sneaks in from behind, etc.

Well you kinda have to at first of you'll spend most of the game alone.

Well that or only join missions where you lead.

I'm really hoping to see some decent squad tactics once the game gets rolling and soldiers get some combat experience under their belts.

not like bf1942 where its a 2 sided free-for-all with everyone doin their own thing and griefers are just another game element.

Yeah i was really excited about BF1942 till i began playing the demo. The people sucked, no teamwork at all or very little and the game itself was lacking.

But PS looks SOOOoo much better.

You'll almost never get teamwork in a "pick up" game, like MOH, RTCW, Tribes, etc. Only if it's your clan, or like in EQ where you can join a formal group and have group chat.

But I anticipate PS having EQ-style group chat, and of course guilds, so I'm sure we'll see lots of good teamwork just as we see it in MMRPG's.

As for me, I like taking orders as much as giving them, maybe even more. Cause if I get ordered to "not let anyone in this door" and I don't, and we lose, I still feel like I did MY job, so clearly the problem was somewhere else, perhaps with the person who was giving the orders. Any failure when you're the order giver is almost always going to be considered to be your fault.

Similarly, not following orders gives people a handy excuse to dump blame on you, so there again it's good to just play along. Even if your team gets trounced you can still get kudos because you did YOU part of the job well.

Yeah i'm not a big fan of leading, i prefer to do what i have to do and let others worry about planing.

Of course this doesn't mean i charge in guns blazing with no tactics, i'm just more of a loner so leading a team is hard for me.

I've done both. Leading is quite a bit of fun, but its also fun just to be a grunt sometimes
