The one thing that annoyed the <bleep> out of me was the HUD.
There where big HUD elements that I found to obscuring or simply wished gone because I hardly had use for them. Yet those same HUD elements I wished gone held important information, which could make a difference between life and death if quickly accessible. Some of the HUD elements could be toggled on and off through key binds, but I’ve no interest memorizing these key bind and when you’re in the middle of a gun fight your focus is on the battle not with key binds. What I was (and still am) looking for in PlanetSide was one key that would toggle on/off or briefly display HUD elements that I marked to be shown. I would really love to see a feature that allows you to toggle on/off or briefly show HUD elements you marked to be hidden by default and appear on demand with a single button press. I have no need to see the Squad/Platoon bar all the time and in a full platoon it consumed a good amount of space. If had the choice I'd toggle pretty much everything off would I have the option to have it all briefly appear with just a click of a button. |

I wouldn't count on the hud being cumbersome this time around. Like with anything, developers are finding better ways to do things, and that includes the HUD. What little we've seen (if they're actually the HUD) seems to take a very minimalist approach.
Ammo counters need not show up until I'm firing, or when I reload. I don't need to see my HP or shielding as long as they're both at full either. |

Good ideas, although ammo count is something I would rarely want to be out of sight, about the only situation I can think of is if I have a full complement. It would be awkward to only realize you are down to your last magazine as you open fire
but hey, I guess this also falls under the personal preference part. So yeah, the idea still sounds great There should also be optional health/shield/ammo circles you could put around your crosshair Last edited by FastAndFree; 2011-11-14 at 07:34 AM. |

Wildcat, I think you have a genius idea here, and not just for PS2, but for any SciFi FPS.
Okay, so in typical games you have 2 states for each HUD element (assuming you are allowed any control at all): ON or OFF So if I understand you correctly, you want a third state, which is TEMPORARY ON. Thus you could swap any UI element into 1 of the 3 states. If you had FULL control, you could make any UI element be under either of these three: ON OFF TEMPORARY ON (meaning that you press a hotkey and all UI elements assigned to this state would appear briefly). I would love to see this in an FPS. |
