i first wanted to post on the no more lockdown thread, but since it will be about all maxes i started a new one.
we know that the old max special abilitys are gone. the vs will not fly and everybody will have a shield, so the nc need something new, too. and tr seem to hate their lockdown. so what would you all like best? maxes seem to be in the work right now, so now is the time to melt your brains and present some ideas! my ideas: vanu get a energy overload, that change the projectiles to something resembling the lasher. a direkt hit on enemy triggers some random chaineffect lightning hitting some targets that stand near the hit. or the overload grants a damage over time effect like plasma grenade, but only on direct hit. the terrans could get a barrelspread. so they have 2 fire modes. normal mode fires with high accuracy, spread mode enlarges the cone of fire AND doubles the bullet output. this would be good for supression fire on a large group and would fit with the many little bullets theme of tr. the nc could get a tractor beam to hold or slow single targets. that would help against single soldiers circling the max to stay out of firecone, but would be not very useful against big groups. and it would be more useful for scattermaxlike units to keep the enemy at an effective position, but would be less useful on aa maxes. but i guess that would apply to all 3 abilitys the like. so what do you think? do you have other ideas?

Well, the TR should get higher firepower if they cant move... perhaps balance that with some sort of "pop-up" plates (only useable whilst stationary...) that give the MAX a bit of cover. Effectively adding some deflection (if modeled), like self activated "hull-down", or just adds hitpoints for simplicity.
If all MAX's get shields... perhaps the extra unused power from movement could be diverted to shields for more shield strength while locked-down. |

Some kind of super melee would be funny, like suggested above something like FIST or HULK SMASH ability, essentially just a short range melee attack which does huge damage and maybe punts people back a few meters, great for clearing blocked doorways and keeping the fear in lights/Rexos around maxes.
Some sort of overcharge would be cool as well, weapons increase rate of fire for a short period but then overheat and go into cooldown mode where you can't fire for a few seconds, allowing a higher burst damage on maxes but with a trade off where they need cover during cooldown. Also some kind of thump/stomp where dropping from high heights such as gal drops or off towers/walls they can free fall into the ground and cause a huge crash doing damage to things below them and shaking everyones screen, great for jumping off base walls and towers on to vehicles camping below.
