Foreword:
Recently we've seen a lot of FPS's try to integrate social media into themselves and I think only Battlefield 3 has come close to getting to what i would consider decent, the browser-based launcher is pretty cool along with the com-center. I think however where they lack is integrating themselves into existing social media. I've seen some things mentioned in other threads talking about how the social media will be used as a glorified marketing gimmick, but I think it can be far more than that. I don't still play Planetside for the game-play, I play it because it is in itself a social experience. Things like Facebook, twitter, and systems like BF3's Battlelog only serve to enhance this experience. They are a part of a growing number of people's everyday lives, and will continue to be into the future. Functions I want to Have:
I know a lot of people are old and crusty but as one who was born at the END of the 1980's I've grown far more accustomed to having access to all my Social Media all the time, and have been addicted to retweets, FB likes and that stuff. This is stuff I would use, I don't think i'm alone, but I think there are a lot of veterans who will oppose the inclusion of any social media. And for the love of god if you're concerned with bandwidth, you might want to consider broadband. I'm sure this is more useful than the /pizza command at least.... Though I'd be happy to see that come back. Realistically I don't think that SOE has the muscle to pull some of things off, but maybe by saying that they'll do it to spite me. Have ideas? Throw them below and i'll update the developer "wishlist". Last edited by RedKnights; 2012-02-07 at 04:11 AM. |

Social Media, SOE Credits and in-game attrition.
I'm a veteran and I understand some value of social media communication with PlanetSide 2 could greatly improve popularity and maybe sales. the Individual Since PlanetSide 2 will be using SOE Credits where we purchase variations of equipments, I'd say a social media reference would work brilliant for individual PlanetSide2 gamers.
your Outfit Preferably, I'd like social media of PlanetSide 2 to be an Outfit thing. How it would work? Well, here's an idea:

but its not just a form of advertising media, its 100% a method for monitoring, spying and steering the sheep of the world. telling you what to "like", what to "dislike" regardless if you think you have a choice or not, you are being brainwashed every second your on it.
social networking? try Social Engineering. and it has worked a treat. |

I didn't hate the BF3 battlelog, but I never used the damn thing and I found the launching from a browser a pain in the ass. I would rather the developers focus on the game itself then maybe go into something like this if there is a strong enough want for it.
If SOE actually makes use of Steam as a requirement for the game then you basically have all the community needs right there. Excluding stats. |

No, no, nn-n-nan- NO. All this social networking shit, as someone said above, is everywhere now. We don't need a goddamn facebook/twitter/youtube app in a game. Something like Battlelog, even though I hate it with a passion, is the furthest I could take. A dedicated PS2 site to upload pics/videos from a screencap button is fine. But leave it out of the game.

I hate Facebook and dont use it. But i still think there is merit init. Imagine posting huge battle pictures to hype the game to get your friends interested. Imagine if the interface has the Clouds short sample video recording, so you can hit a button and it uploads a video of you orbital striking a hot drop of 12 guys.
Remember, if these things dont interest you. Then you dont have to get involved, i know i wont. But i can definatly see the point in including it. I would like to see something similar to Xbox's new beacon system, maybe on a station launcher. - BigFish85 is defending Cyssor and needs members for his squad. etc. Last edited by Cosmical; 2012-02-12 at 06:15 PM. |
