Another 'Battlefield 3'

For those of you that come from Mordor, a.k.a. EU UK Battlefield 3 section, do you think this will be another flop in terms of what's expected, delivered and promised? Will the game go down the same casual road, or will they keep the features that everyone loved about the first PlanetSide?

I've no experience with the old PlanetSide to judge the game based on its predecessor, so what's the 'veterans' point of view on this?

Honestly, PS1 was a pretty "bad" game from a technical and gameplay standpoint. Which makes the fact that it is many people's (including mine) favorite game of all time even more impressive.

I really have no idea what you are talking about BF3 for, that game is a technical and gameplay marvel.

There's very few things so far I don't like, so I doubt it.

"Features everybody loved" is such a none specific term. There is absolutely nothing in the game disappearing that people mind about, where exactly is this thread coming from.

Be specific.

On another note, I'm soon going to start branding people that throw about the term casual as idiots. This is such an none meaningful way to insult things in gaming these days, it means absolutely nothing. It is a "stop liking things I don't like" insult.

I can't be specific when I haven't played the games before. This thread is directed mostly at those who knows the situation with Battlefield 3, and how the fans had to accept the new game.

You be crazy. Technical and gameplay marvel? If you call ripping the guts out of a franchise and completely ignoring all of the features that made the game unique then yeah it was a marvel. However i think you will find that we in mordor think otherwise.

WOAH. Battlefield 3 wasn't the exact same game as its predecessors?! Shocking.

PS2 isn't going to be the same game as PS1 by a long shot.

Just look into the game and see for yourself what they are doing with the game. There is TONS of info all over about almost every aspect of the game and how they are trying to draw from PS1.

Are you asking if this will be "another BF3" meaning you think BF3 flopped? Cause If it's "another BF3" in terms of success then in my book I hope it is.

If it's "another BF3" in terms of it feels and plays like BF3 then god save us. Love that game but keep it away from PS.

That is such an invalid argument. Ripping the guts out of the franchise how?

BF3 is a gorgeous game, with solid working mechanics. Denying its technical excellence is just silly. The gameplay is great. Guns feel awesome to use and have a great mix of tactical and fast paced. Game balance is about as good as I've seen with something that varied. Etc. etc.

The only valid critique I've seen comparing it to previous installments is that there isn't as expansive of a destruction engine. And that was a bad company thing, not specifically a battlefield thing.

Free load outs, vehicle animations, AMS's, Sanctuaries, etc.

There are a LOT of people that mind about those things.

I see I'm not among Battlefield fans here.

Essentially I'm talking about whether the game will be dumped down to a point that it's kind of irrelevant. I.e. do you think the game is catered towards Call of Duty players? Or will it maintain it's glory?

Vehicle animations won't break the game, AMS are being replaced by Galaxy and I think most people are OKAY with this, and the sanctuaries is wait and see.

It's hard to say right now. A lot of things that made PS unique for what the game was whether good or bad has been changed. PS2 has been heavily influenced by BF3 mechanics for the "masses" as it is the terms of "to days" games.

Whether this is a good thing or bad, time will only tell.

BF3 is technically excellent, sure, although the blinding sun and blue hue everywhere are poor art design choices.

Also, balance isn't the only issue at stake here. The game is too fast paced and I'm not even talking about TTK, the teamwork tools are missing or castrated. Map size and design is bad, there's nothing but meatgrind and charging into hamburger fests, less tactics and zero strategy to it. Immersion features such as screen blur, explosions that rock you even if they are too far away to hurt you, restrictive prone, etc, the irritation of these things outweigh the benefits of the immersion.

Different is not always better.

..... god I hate you guys.

Explain to me how BF3 was dumbed down. And I mean specifics. Streamlining gameplay, removing unnecessary clutter is not dumbing down. it is cutting the fat and distilling the actual GAME part of the game.
