I am all for Vanu and all, but I am more worried about the devastating effects of the Terran Republic Striker.
Long range missiles that lock on to their target. If you look at the weapons picture, it looks like it has a clip (so it will be able to fire multiple shots). Imagine a Gallaxy trying to land and being shot out of the sky by just a handful of soldiers with one of these equipped. Skeeters dropping like flies because you can not dodge these missiles. Oh man, it seems like the Terran Republic has premier anti-vehicle weapon. I could easily see the Striker being carried by each and every TR soldier as their secondary weapon. Now that is a scarry thought. (I might have to reconsider my faction choice to avoid fighting against this weapon)

Are there flares? (and can I equip them on my mosquito?)

It's a launcher. Yes it locks on but lock does not = hit. You can still outrun and outmaneuver it. As for it's clip i doubt they'll include more than a max of 5-10 ammo, anything else would make it very powerful indeed. Either way i'll be sneaking up on you TRs (if i'M not one myself) and feeding you some plasma up close and personal.

Each empire has an advantage in the anti-vehicle weapon department.
TR: It can track it's target. Pretty Schweet NC: Can be fired out of site, come around a corner, and then smack into it's target. Not Being Seen is Pretty Schweet. VS: Insta-hit weapon. Outrun that. Pretty Schweet. Common Pool: Hits the hardest, and is smaller than the rest... dumbfire only. Different, but balanced. I wouldn't worry about one side having an advantage over the others. Same deal with lots of other weapons. Assault rifles for example: VS: Very little recoil, means more shots on target at all ranges... but this won't matter as much up close. NC: More damage from the same ammo. Hardest hitting assault rifle? TR: Best rate of fire + big ammo capacity. SCOPE. ROF won't mean much at long range, where recoil will spray stuff everywhere. And THIS one gets the scope. Just remember the phrase "short, controlled bursts". Basically, the TR guys don't need a mag implant to snipe with their assault rifle. I wouldn't be suprised to find that the damage/sec is pretty even across all weapons, at medium range (20 50m?)... where recoil becomes an issue. I think the TR are going to be best up close (more bullets on target, scatter will be less of a concern), and the Vanu will have an advantage at longe range... while CS comes in as average across the board. And the punisher will be comparable across the board, if slightly inferior. But the punisher has a Big Fricket Rocket. Boom. I'm expecting the punisher and NC rifles to use the same ammo. The TR rifle will use the same bullets, but use different clips (a drum in this case). Same kinds of bullets too. From what was said in various places, I'm expecting there to be different ammo types... armor piercing, anti-personel, maybe a few others. Vanu aren't going to care about ammo types, I'm expecting consistent performance against all targets. That means no reloading when you switch target types. I also wouldn't be suprised to find that they can fire the longest on a reload. TR may have the most shots per reload, but they'll spew rounds so fast that they'll run out of ammo just as fast as the other empires, if not faster. Verant has worked hard (and is no doubt still working hard) on keeping things different but balanced. I Expect Great Things. |
