By the angle, shape and dual barrels I would assume it's AA.
I agree tho, I'd like some confirmation too. Honestly I would love to see a turret with missile pods. That would be perfect AA, AI and AV. Edit, excuse me. Rocket Pods. They didn't "remove" them. And the Devs know that we want them to be created. So with enough encouragement they might use the resources necessary to make the animations.
Just be aware that the time spent on this fluff is taking away from the content patches.

Wonder if there are turret specialisations?
I love rocking a base turret and holding off the hordes. My main issue with stationary turrets is they become nothing more than a minor setback on the way into the base. Very rarely do turrets offer a substantial deterant, or even if they do.... they just become a larger threat for everyone to gang up on and get rid of quicker. I propose a shield boost you can activate while manning the turret, upping its survivablity while manned by players. Also giving the turret operator a chance to hold out while they get healed, or forcing attackers to back off while the turret is invincible. It wouldnt be enough to cripple the game, but would be enough so you can jam it on when 2 tanks have you in their sights, and maybe make them panic or atleast some leeway beyond "ditch and run".
