Have an option for free voice chat with anyone (in your faction) within the radius of 100-50 meters, a thing which could be useful for situations when you don't have time to write in the chat (middle of a battle), or just for organisation and conversation purposes ("Hey I'm going to the tower on I2 (coordinate) with my liberator, anybody wants to come with me?") and stuff like that.
Could be very comfortable for communication purposes. Should have a mute option, in case anybody wants to show off with his porn collection through the microphone, or just flames. |

With all the other players I am thinking proximity could get spammed too much. I was thinking of say like a instant voice message to a person as a quick chat. Go up to some one hit the interact menue and hit say then send a quick 1min 30 sec voice message to a person.

Oh god I was writing a huge post on why its a bad idea but it the fucking site just didn't send it (why didn't I ctrl-c'd it why?????)
In short its a bad idea because trolls (and there will be a lot of them since its a f2p game) will ruin it and if you mute them then others will do the same and it pretty much ruins the point of voice chat. Alternatives were: 1)Very small radius (2-3 meters) so you can easily chat in enclosed spaces when you don't have time to type its also more realistic 2)Built in voice commands like in tribes: ascend or cod4 (don't know it other cod's have it too didn't really play them) 3)Person specific voice chat, you just point at someone, press a key and you can chat with them. In my opinion the fist one is the best by far but only if there is a very easy way to ignore people quickly Last edited by Dima; 2012-06-03 at 02:09 PM. |

Very cool as an idea but any sort of Proximity based voip would probably be the dregs of PS2. I can't imagine it ever being used for anything useful because it's so unorganized. Probably just people trolling on it all the time like in Halo or CoD voip.

ARGH, common you pessimists, tf2 and COD (Lolz poopz BAD Swag) have those and it's fun in both. Yes it's a whole server chat, but the difference is small+ faction limited (no you don't have to shout, and enemy's don't have to hear you, because it's a futuristic supah future, which means that digital communication devices won't be a problem) which means that 9 years old children will have no reason to shout at people who killed them, cause the enemy will not hear them.
Regarding trolls:
Good idea: if someone gets muted by~15 players (to avoid troll groups or anything), he automatically looses his right to use the chat for the next 2 weeks (and no, that's not such a big deal, if you'r innocent you can probably go to the mods and ask for help, or just use chat text).
And regarding the guy who said that devs have already talked about it, and went away, try to give suggestions instead, this forum is not only for original ideas, but also for discussing and improving those that exist. |
