Personally I always found the animations added an extra element of immersion to the game and it also shows how much effort the devs really put into planetside 1. I'd love to see them make a return. I think right now there aren't any plans for them in the works as there are far more Important things to work on [which is understandable] but I'd be thrilled to see them patched in in the future. Thoughts?

oh look. its this thread again.
edit: they just aren't necessary to me, and they were buggy in PS1. i think as long as there is a slight warmup timer, there really isn't an issue. i never felt 'more immersed' with animations. im not opposed, but they aren't exactly on my priority list. the devs are aware of our love to these animations.
the last thread about this went crazy and only died when matt told us that this would add another 6 month to the project. but i would still love to see them added later on! even if it´s added one vehicle at a time, starting with the gal and sunderer.

Exactly, and I'll make a prediction. An overwhelming majority of veterans will vote in favor of it, just like last time.
I thought the animations were cool, of course. But I just can't by the "immersion" argument. If anything, it broke immersion because it took you out of first person view, which is THE most immersive thing. I'd like to see the animations someday, but it's not the cake, or even the frosting on the cake, it's just the sprinkles on the frosting....great, now I want cake. |

I'm for it if it's some side thing they can do. Maybe have it in one of the first big updates? I didn't play PS1, but I did notice during gameplay videos how when a vehicle was about to die, the driver would just teleport out of the vehicle and someone would be robbed of a kill. It would also put more emphasis on ejection-seat type certs/things.

Nope they add nothing to the game and just become repetitive and annoying. I never played Planetside and thought they were a part of the game that I thought was vital or would miss if they were gone.
Battlefield 3 gets it right because it feels slick getting in and out of the vehicle without noticing. This just feels far better and you're able to defend yourself. The thing is in real life you can defend yourself when getting out but game controls and game engines are complex enough to allow that detail atm. So right now no animations is a happy medium because it allows you to defend yourself as soon as possible, it doesn't become annoying by taking control and showing you the same animation over and over. If you think about it in real life you don't watch yourself animate getting out of a vehicle... |

And defending yourself isnt an issue actually. If you hop out of a plane, there are no animations. If you hop out of a tank, yes, there are. But if you hop out of the tank to survive, then the explosion of the tank would kill you regardless. |

the immersion we are always talking about is not from when you enter something yourself, it´s from when you watch others enter vehicles! it just looks stupid when soldiers run up to a vehicle and just disappear. being able to see how he opens the door and climbs in does all the difference!
